Recently purchased a new Shimano Castaic CA200SF to use for flipping &
Pitching. Would like to know what you all have to say about this reel?
Also what type of rod would you recommend for this application?
Now all I need is for someone to show me the proper way to do that!

I don't know much about them new fangled flippin' & pitchin' reels,
but I can show you a thing or two about pitchin'. Just spend a little
time with me outside the motel at the NWC. Flippin' not so much as I
still feel like a mental midget when it comes to that short line
presentation. I'm only accurate to about 15 feet flippin'.

I purchased a castiac last season for the same purpose. I matched it up with
a 7' H BPS Extreme rod. It's an ok reel but I feel the whole flipping switch
thing is overrated. I use it often but like my scorp, Quantum and currado
better. I use the Quantum for my pitching. A thumb on the spool is just as
effective as the flipping switch (IMO)
If your hitting Buck bushes and laydowns at close range, I was tying 30#
florocarbon to it and pretty much ripped through everything I threw it at.
Randy witnessed a couple flip fish on his small lake with that reel. Yanked
em right out of the bushes.
Have fun with it and good fishing.

Kevin,
I use a 7' Medium Heavy St. Croix rod. That seems to work really good for
me. Though I have Curados on my flippin/pitchin rods. I am sure the
Castaic would work just as good.

Lurebuilder uses his trusty Abu workhorse on a Shimano ATX200 spinning reel
loaded to the max with Shakespeare 8 lb ultra stretch mono. Better casting
that hookups ya know.
