Hi. Rebecca,
My financial aid has not been made available to me yet. the f.a. office
said that my bank should have it available to me in the next couple of days.
Meanwhile, with just $50 to my name right now, I am unable to purchase the
packet. I am hoping that I will be able to get the packet in time to do the
reading for Thursday, but I am a little concerned about it. Are there any
other resources through which I might access the reading?

Snake, this sort of thing just won't happen if you stop using Outlook
and go over to a real newsreader and a real email program. Try Free
Agent (it's free) for newsreading and try Pegasus or Eudora for email.

Well, whadayaknow...those programs will override a deliberate
"accidental" post to a newsgroup? Oh, and lest anyone start accusing me
of "laying on" good ol' snake's ass, I find particularly interesting the
inconsistent use of caps - for example, header vs. body. Oh, sure,
there'll be all sorts of defenders and white-knighting, but IMO, "snake"
is a perfect handle...

HTH,

....and how come the "oops, screwed up..." emails are never the boring,
meaningless-to-anyone-else emails like "Hon - I'll go by store if you
get laun - rem. party @ M and J's Fri nite - don't forget S's soccer
game 8/28 - luv ya, K"...

As a starving student many many moons ago, my Grand Dad said to me, "Johnny
there's only two reasons for having that Winchester 30-30. One is to shoot
that big buck under the apple tree and the other is to hock it at the pawn
shop when you need cash at school". Expect a fly rod and reel would work
today.

He also said that he kept a half pint of Goood Smooooooouth sipping whiskey,
around just for medicinal purposes. Yep, said he felt poorly purt near all
the time!

Good luck!

Well, if the innocent version rules, it'll prevent another mistake.
If the deliberate version is the thing, it'll leave no excuse for
another, right?

so, lemee get this straight. you are accusing me of deliberatly posting
this message to roff? to what end? so all of roff can know i am currently
without a pot to **** in? not the kind of thing i worry too mcuh about
putting out there, but not something i brag about either. god, you're a

i consider my general e-mail, and my newsgroup postings to be of a more
casual nature than something i would post to one of my instructors.
sometimes my habit of typing the latter in a said manner spills over into
more formal messages, and i don't always catch the errors. BFD

R,
You simply configure MS Lookout to go to your mail account and the
newreader to go to the news account and keep them separate that way.
It's not foolproof but if you have to switch apps to do functions it'll
cut down on the chances of a mistake.

I use Thoth for newsreading and Mozzilla for mail.

Thanks, Allen, but a) there's a very good chance you got the term
(directly or indirectly) "Lookout (Distress)" from me, on or off ROFF,
which leads to b), I'd not use it for anything, at any time, configured
or unconfigured. I use a separate client for a newsreader (Agent, 1.93
and 2.0x) and I'm not the one who posted an alleged email to ROFF.

And as aside, I'm not particularly anti-MS - some of their stuff is OK,
some ain't, and no, I didn't and don't REALLY think "Gill Bates" is the
"Un-natural hellspawn of some four-eyed limp-wristed devil with a
perma-swirly and a light little chip on his weak, dainty shoulder"

Thanks, anyway,

(1) While no lover of MS products they do have their place and I do a
lot of design work on them for my customer (and my company just filed
for a patent on my behalf for a defence in depth security architecture
based primarly on Windows products) but given the results of a recent
study at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, where it put two
unpatched Windows XP systems on the 'net, and both were compromised
within 20 minutes. you'll find nothing I personally depend on attached
to a Windows systems, all Mac and Linux for me.

(2) While I may have seen "Lookout" used by you it's been in use in our
internal Mac Users Group since that product came out.

Oh, I've nothing really against MS - Office, etc., are decent, useful
products in their element. And I don't put anything real or truly
important anywhere near open networks of any kind <G>.

Oh, I've no claim on "first use" (at least I don't think I do), but I am
among the earliest of users (it's a LONG story) and I've discovered all
sorts of "6th-degree"-type of usages with some pretty weird paths. I
used it here several years ago and noticed several switched to using it
- didn't know if you were one of them, sorry.

I beg to differ. Jennifer is a virtuoso in the making. Watching her spank

I agree she rides them both hard and puts'em away wet, but she really needs to be
fishin'--IMMHO. li'l ricky and kenny poo are starved for attention and jealous of
Jennifer's popularity among real flyfishers.

Btw, Frank and wayno are both right about Jennifer's character, and I hope you get a

Daisy Mae is definitely an accomplished virtuoso, but speaking
strictly as a consumer advocate for roff, she's gonna have to
start giving a little more value for the dollar.

She got a fly rod, fly reel, fly vest, fly line, some flies
and a lesson for a little bit of eye candy bikini time. That's
what, at least $150-$200 bucks for some exhibitionism that
she'd probably do for free anyway.

Now she's dropping hints that she could use some actual cash
money to buy "textbooks," don't you think that's worth at least
a lap dance ? I mean, c'mon, who's looking out for the lecherous
geezers around here ?

How would you know? According to your post on abpf you've not met the

In past years we've had to read notes about Ken's dog, RW's wife's checkbook
balance, Lord only knows what kind of note that was from Wayno and numerous
Mike C. misposts. I've come close to doing it myself if not for having my
newsreader to require a password before posting and catching it then. If
only we could all be so perfect as to not make mistakes, what a better world
it would be.

Oh and how boring ROFF would be too.

I'm somewhere in between you and the north state barrister on her posting
but not everything has to be a damn conspiracy.

No, neither of them is starved for attention. On the other hand, neither of

And again (generally, of course), real "oops" email postings are either,
a)essentially meaningless, regardless of possible entertainment value,
to anyone but the recipient, b) a "hit reply to group" rather than
"reply via email" (I've done that myself), c) really mundane
"real-world" stuff - business, "pick up some curry for dinner, sweetie,"
"the cat threw up again," "you painted the living room WHAT color?",
etc. And I gotta tell ya, some of Mike C.'s alleged "oops" postings
didn't exactly seem legit to me, either.

>Oh and how boring ROFF would be too.

Oh, yeah, ROFF would be a real snooze without the occasional email
posting...(oh, OK - <G>)

Here's some of what caught my attention: when I returned to ROFF (...as
I wait for the hissing to stop....), here she was, and I first thought,
"Interesting - another lady poster - not many of those through the
years." When I saw the ruckus, I googled up some of the lead-up, and
was perfectly willing to find that Ken was just being an asshole.
However, a number of things seemed, well, "off." Admittedly, I didn't
do enough to _really_ research it, just kinda skimmed it all, but I saw
enough to trigger my bull**** detector (incl. header info).

Then, the "guess what dear, dear darling Frank sent? <SQUEAL!>" run of
posts, etc. Now this. One thing I particularly noticed then and now is
her use of jeff-n-wayno lack of caps, but mainly on ROFF (as opposed to
other NGs), and it seemed to "evolve" as she started trying to "clique."
Then there's the language of the alleged "oops" email. Normal adults
don't send a prof. an email with _that_ type of info/language - even if
it was an "oops," she's still trying to gain something from somebody
with some "poor, poor me" BS. And of course, there's the timing, what
with Frank's contemporary glowing report(s). For me, it all adds up to
exactly what I plainly stated.

Could I be wrong? Well, of course. Would I bet against myself? Not
with serious odds. Is everyone here an adult...well, scratch that...is
everyone here over 18 and free to think what they wish and act
accordingly? Most likely anyone whom such an "email" "accidentally"
posted might spur into action. As always, YMMV.

Not to denegrate her overall intelligence nor the school, if she can play
the fiddle without making one's skin crawl she has more talent than I
pocess, but she is studying Applachian Studies or some such and taking a
class on Appalachian Women from a small western NC college. Formality is not
exactly common in Boone from what I remember.

Regardless, she's here, and several "regulars" seem to like her, a few don't
and probably the rest of us are somewhat ambivalent. I don't really care to
know whatother newsgroups she visits nor do I care who she is or is not
doing. This ROFF thingie is a new toy for her and Timmie did a nice tactful
net nanny with her today.

But you got to quit being so damn cynical man! For Christ sakes, you're a
damn republican (at least you post like one), if you're gonna believe the
garbage coming out of this administration, surely you can believe the lady
made an hones mistake :)

God, you're a sad sack...what are you, on exit-n-return #1204 or
something? Lemmee guess, Pratman - one of the Connorettes saw the
mention, and instantly lit up the "Pratsignal"...well, you've told me
good, so you can go back to beating nuns, writing "oh, feel sorry for me
because I'm special" drivel, and swooping in and telling folks what's
what...or hell, stay awhile - I've gotten bored with Wolfgang's
long-winded, ill-conceived pomposity, and so, yours oughta be
fun...well, until you swirl your cape and run away crying yet AGAIN...

Would it be okay if we suppose *you* know what you're talkin' about? I was going
to raise the same question as Wayne, but figured it wasn't worth it. It's
obvious that you must be trying to play around with someone's head, but do you
absolutely have to include all of roff?

Well as you busy bodies are so intrigued, and noting that FACT that I didn't
include any of ROFF, Wayne in his infinite puffiness did. If either of you
recalls, l'il ricky once stated that Jennifer didn't actually exist and was
merely a sock-puppet of someone else in ROFF.

So, I posted the following to ROFT and not ROFF mocking l'il ricky:

"Frank's pic never showed-up on my server, apparently, and as I have never

"the Snake" I'd really like to see a pic of the woman I have 'excellent

You don't seem to give a **** about much these days except protecting snake (who

Frank stated on ROFF that he'd be posting pictures on APBF, so you knew roffians
would be over there to catch your signals. If you don't want us "busy bodies" to
know your business, keep it off of Usenet.

No, you posted it to APBF knowing full well that roffians were the only people

You don't seem to give a **** about much these days except protecting snake (who
is doing just fine on her own), and sniping at Ken, rdean, and now Wayne.

Frank stated on ROFF that he'd be posting pictures on APBF, so you knew roffians
would be over there to catch your signals. If you don't want us "busy bodies" to
know your business, keep it off of Usenet.

No, you posted it to APBF knowing full well that roffians were the only people

opinion.

Yeah I know Tim, you ain't never had any bull**** battles on ROFF yourself, eh?

And, no I didn't get the reaction that I expected, as I didn't expect any reaction at
all. How many times have you ever seen a post on ABPF, or any other NG for that
matter, jump to ROFF that wasn't originally cross-posted? I didn't bring this to
ROFF, Wayne did. Wayne had nothin better to do than yank my chain with this post:

"How would you know? According to your post on abpf you've not met the

So why did you feel the need to come to Wayne's defense?

Nothing to do with formality or lack thereof - it was the language and
the caps use - when I did the aforementioned "WTF" looksee on my return,
I simply google-grouped her handle/email. I noticed the caps/no caps
seemed mainly for ROFF, ala jeff and wayno.

And while I can't say for certain, I'd bet taking a class on
"Appalachian Women" at a "small western NC college" ain't exactly like
paying for law school at Yale. And I doubt such a class leads to huge
raises and promotions, so the struggling student trying to better
herself thing doesn't exactly play, at least to me. If an adult takes
such an elective/NC class, and had no idea about expenses, again, she
isn't all that bright (and if it was an "oops," she got financial aid to

Some folks get to be doctors, others nannies..... whatever she can or wants
to do with appalachian studies it's her life. An honest days work is what
matters and if you are right, if it gets her the books good for her, if
you're not, then it ain't gonna matter. If she wants to post it of Roff, and

That's good to know, as I have no problem responding in kind to verbal and/or physical
assaults.

Hey, and for you it's a win-win situation, regardless of the outcome. If nothing
occurs in a face to face confrontation, you can come back to ROFF and boast of your
manhood and my lack there of; if I were to respond to a verbal assault physically, you
can return to ROFF victorious, telling all that Kenny was right about me all along and
that you made me suffer he consequences.

Or things could go very badly for both of us, and all because you puffed up an already
inflated chest.

Only time will tell.

geez-
my intention in sending that message to my instructor was to find out how i
might access the resources from which she copied the materials in the
course-pack, so as not to be behind in our reading, and be able to actively
participate in class discussion. as to it being a casually written message,
the instructor happens to be a grad student in my area of study, and in much
the same boat as i, as our outside of class discussions have reflected, and
we have had a somewhat social relationship prior to her teaching this
course.
being a diligent instructor, she responded to my message by immidiatly
putting the books from which she copied the articles on reserve in the
library, and sending an e-mail to that effect to all her students.

as to the accusation that i posted that message to roff in hopes that
someone might offer to pay for my text- books- how absurd!
first of all, why would anyone?
second of all, how would that be faster that the 1-2 days i was waiting for
my financial aid to hit my bank account? think about it.
last of all, why would i humiliate myself that way? i have managed to do
this whole "back to school thing" on my own, and will continue to do so, and
i take pride in that fact.

that is all i am going to say about that bull****. :-)

Hm......so, ROFF's own shining exemplar of openness, ROFF's paragon of
fidelity, has his panties in a bunch because somebody's Usenet persona
may not be an absolutely faithful and complete reflection of her
character in all its details?

Seems to me I recall someone hinting from time to time that being too
free with personal information in a public forum might not be a good
idea. Who knows what might follow, eh? I mean, theoretically at
least, someone COULD follow you around from one newsgroup to
another......sort of like a stalking thingy....or God knows what else,
ainna? :)

Like one, that on a lonesome road

And having once turned round walks on,
And turns no more his head;
Because he knows, a frightful fiend
Doth close behind him tread.

Good God, you are an idiot. Still, I guess we have to give you credit
for ferreting out the source of the quote a mere 21 minutes after
someone else published it.

It's customary (and honorable) to name the author when you quote poetry,
or prose for that matter. I realize that you don't feel bound by the
standards of ethical behavior that guide your inferiors.

Good friends, sweet friends, let me not stir you up
To such a sudden flood of mutiny.
They that have done this deed are honourable:
What private griefs they have, alas, I know not,
That made them do it: they are wise and honourable,
And will, no doubt, with reasons answer you.
I come not, friends, to steal away your hearts:
I am no orator, as Stevie is;
But, as you know me all, a plain blunt man,
That love my friend; and that they know full well
That gave me public leave to speak of him:
For I have neither wit, nor words, nor worth,
Action, nor utterance, nor the power of speech,
To stir men's blood: I only speak right on;
I tell you that which you yourselves do know;
Show you sweet Wolfgang's wounds, poor poor dumb mouths,
And bid them speak for me: but were I Stevie,
And Stevie Antony, there were an Antony
Would ruffle up your spirits and put a tongue
In every wound of Wolfgang that should move
The stones of Rome to rise and mutiny.

Cassius

That's your story ? You deliberately said Byron when you knew
it was Coleridge because you wanted to "twitch my strings" ?

Life is uncertain. Even WITH Wayno volunteering to chum with a
wonderful straight line, there is no guarantee that the usual
self-immolating fools will show up and take the bait. However, even
WITH Tim and Myron letting the kitty out of the poke, we see that they
do and they do. Some things in life are less uncertain than others.

never did fool anyone......and its performance isn't improving any

Oh, quite the contrary. Describing your posting style as
masturbatory, that is, written to pleasure yourself to the
exclusion of coherence, readabilty, relevance (and in this
case, credibility) is so spot on I've never heard even one
peep of disagreement, except from you, of course.

Do you really think the secret spot is a secret? I was there on New Year's

Where I came from? You talked to me at the *secret spot* three days ago.
I'm the guy who was catching fish while you weren't. I'm also *not* the guy
who lives in Ludlow with the same name in case you're checking your phone

And by the way, I found you using Google. I found your thread where you

The only reason I use phone books is to rip them in half for sport. Besides, I'm

right. best case scenario, "after tuition" fin. aid refund checks are doled
out to students beginning a few days after classes start, and the process is
performed in alphabetical order. as i said, best case scenario. it is more
common for it to take about a week or so after classes start before folks
start to get the money. there is a woman in my math class who *still*
doesn't have hers. uncommon?- no. pain in the ass?-yes.

From our "In fairness, though...." department:

This door swings both ways. Rumor has it that sometimes both individual
institutions of higher learning and the United States Department of

Pete's ass. Um......well, o.k., it ain't exactly a secret anymore but,
aside from what you've seen here in the last couple of days, the traffic is
still rumored to be relatively light.

Yes is has been a wonderful day, I got fired from my job, the bankruptcy
court turned me down, my only secret fishin' spot has been divulged on ROFF,
my dog ran away from home, and my mother just told me she's been carrying on
a long-distance love affair with a man in Ill. named Fortenberry!

If you recognize this for what it is, without emoticons, you to have done a

Tim: I doubt this is the guy, but my friend Lee said he spoke to you the

wasn't catching anything.

Yeah, I remember Lee - bastid! Actually, a very nice guy who caught the one
small fish I saw caught that day, on a Hornburg nonetheless. George was down in
the run closest to the lot and said he pulled out a few small fish from there. I
caught NUTHIN' except a sore back. :( I guess that's why they call it fis. .
.. . uh, you know.

My best guess is that Pete <> Lee, because, from what I heard, Lee has been
fishing there for a long time and would know to keep the area a secret. Pete
appears to be a blabber mouth with no respect for the essence of fly fishing.
Also, Lee didn't appear to be the type to use "dude" in proper sentence
structure like "Dude? Dude!"

Yeah, Lee's a really good guy. But he can't figure his computer for ****
which earns me a bottle of good Scotch a couple times a year.

Sore back? What you need is a long day of canoeing - like on the 'paug.
Which I know you're not up for for our annual hot weather fishing day (next
week?), but we should really try to get the Massachusite Navy together
before it closes Oct. 16. We could hit foliage that second week of Oct.

Jim and I are going to 9mile tomorrow late in the day barring lightning.
Call by 4 if you can get a day pass.

Just like my week, only different. My secret fishin' spot got fired on by
the bankruptcy court, my mother ran away from home and my dog's been
carrying on a long-distance love affair with a man in IL named Fortenberry.

Can dogs get genital herpes? Probably not long distance, unless there's
a shipment of bodily fluids packed in ice. It's OK, probably. Get to
know your FedX and USPS delivery personnel, and alert them to the situation.

Ding! Ding! Ding! We have a winner!

See Pete, the reason we call it the "secret spot" is precisely because everyone
in southern New England has fished it at one time or another. In other words
it's a joke! If you develop a sense of humor, I'll show you another secret spot
north of route 9. (But I'll have to blindfold you on the way up, so you can't
find your way back there again. {;-)

I saw Lee and caught up on old times with him in the parking lot. Great
guy...was a WMFF member before the Pioneer Valley Chapter of T.U. got started.
Hadn't seen him in a number of years, and it was great to talk to him again.

The most creative (and educational) use of student loans I ever heard of was
a friend of mine, who shall remain nameless. He used his student loans to
buy a nice new sports car, which he drove to Florida and traded for an old
jalopy with a trunkful of hashish. Which he drove (at speed limit) back to
New England and sold in small amounts for enough of a profit to buy a nice
chunk of land alongside a whitewater river, as well as enough boats and gear
to start a river company, which he ran successfully for a dozen years or so
until he got such a lucrative offer on the whole thing that he sold it, paid
off the student loan, bought himself another new sports car, another chunk
of property in town, and lived happily ever after.

dude should have skipped step one, hitched to fla, and bought the jalopy
and even more hash.

If anyone would know the importance of hiding the cash, it should
be you. That sports car was the ESSENTIAL step one. That was the
totally untraceable "seed" money, the rest is just "business."
