View Full Version : Penn's Clave 2005--Dates and Details

Tom Littleton
August 25th, 2004, 11:14 PM
About the only good that came of last weekend's stay in Coburn was the chance
to sit down with Rudy and reserve space for Penn's Clave V. I have ALL cabins
reserved for the dates of May 28(Sat) to June 4(Sat). This time period will
encompass Memorial Day, and more than likely, Full Drake Madness. It will NOT
encompass either the birthdays of my spouse or Seideman's, nor Reid's
anniversary, so new excuses will have to be accumulated to miss those social
events, if so desired.
We have the following cabins definite: A six man, recently upgraded cabin, a 4
to 5 person cabin, with new deck, and a two man cabin. Rudy is constructing 4
new full-service cabins in the spring. Whether any or all will be ready for the
clave is very iffy. Needless to say, there may well be trailer space
available(a couple are for sale in the campground, as well), along with tenting
and RV space to beat the band. If possible, try to figure out cabin needs or
interests, and get back to me.
The cabins are $60 for the biggest, $50 for the 4/5 man, and $40 for the little
cabin. Deposit for the week is one night's stay, but as we are booked for a
whole week, it will be only 6 nights rent to stay 7 nights.
Finally, a quick update on the bear situation. Sightings and encounters have
been nearly non-existent for a few weeks. Rudy has warnings to take care, and
not feed them. I figure by next spring, there will be NO problem, as I must
have spoken to six or seven guys with Bear Permits applied for in camp already.
EMail me with any questions,etc.

"Nearly" non-existent? Um.....didn't I read about a bear sighting at
Hemlock acres right here in ROFF within the last week or so?

Wolfgang
who knows that near is a rather indefinite term. :)

Yes, consider the term "near beer," for example.

Around here, it is said the the guy who named "near beer" was a damn
poor judge of distance!

that was by Frank, and he was on his third beer by then, and thus,
unreliable<g>....along with his, there have only be two sightings in about 5
weeks!

tom - put me on the cabin list...prefer non-smoking cabin if possible,
so if there are other non-smokers interested in sharing a cabin (as i
recall, they are open without separate bedrooms), perhaps we can go
ahead and get the groups organized. don't know if ij, wayno, or jim
will be traveling up...but after seeing the beginnings of a green drake
hatch, i'm looking forward to another visit and i hope they will come along.

Hmmm, before I even mentioned it to Rudy, he stated that they'd not seen
a bear in 5 weeks and that one showed up Thursday evening in the same
area I spotted him (i.e. the tenting area). I wasn't that far into the
cups (yet) when he ran through there.
Rudy, by the way, blamed the bears on me. He's reading ROFF now. He
knew Tom and I were coming up so he unplugged the bear fence to ensure
we had some good stories.
By the way, Rudy, you're slippin'. Steve used to bring out some women's
volleyball team from that little, podunk school over in State College
whilst the ROFFians were in town. Work on it.

Well, OK, but that begs the question, "How far do you have to be into
the cups to start seeing things?"

Oh, sure, blame it on some poor lurker...I'll bet y'all were seeing rock
bears, wood bears, leaf bears, shadow bears, and tree bears, amongst
others...

Whatdayaknow...my SO was offered a scholarship to Penn State (volleyball
and track, IIRC AND scholastic) as well as where she ultimately went
(but she did especially like the School of Journalism there)...and SOME
of you guys would probably be safer hoping for the bear to show up
instead of the team...

Sounds as if you drunk most of it anyway. Run out of sauce? That might also
at least partly explain, if not excuse, your generally obnoxious
lubriciousness, not to mention the smell. Seems you are using the stuff on
the wrong end. Although who can tell what causes a slimey arsehole?
Or a coarse packet generally?

Bye bye dicky, do have a nice day, ( but keep an eye out for errant
thunderclouds).

Boy, talk about your rock and a hard place. In the one cabin
there's Knight pouring 25 year old single malt over ice cubes
(AIIIIIEEEEEEEEEE !) and in the other there's Uber Colonel Epps

We drive right past the Springfield(MA)/Hartford(CT) airport (Bradley) on
the way to Penns. It might be much less expensive for you to fly to a
bigger airport though.

Or you could just fly into Hickory Not So International Airport and I could
show you my *new secret fishin' spot.* Of course, you would have to promise
never to tell anyone back in Sweden about it. The Penns is a great 'Clave,

Empty your garbage cans daily and discourage them - or else tell you

You may also want to consider the Western Clave and see a different part of

tom - at the very end of the road that runs by 3-streamer stans and the
tunnel, there is a dirt/gravel road from the parking lot into some
private property. there's actually some type of rental outfit back
there, with a fine looking big log cabin on penns. lou teletski told me
about it, so i rode back and took a look at it. have you or the other
pa. regulars stayed there? can you check it out on one of your
trips...just for future reference. i know there are a lot of club-owned
properties over at poe paddy, but the rental places on the stream seem
limited to the "carolina" cabin. hemlock is fine for what it is, but
staying on the stream has its advantages; and, i'd like to find a penns
creek place where rachel and i could stay sometime - she's even less of
a camper than i.

Roger!!!

Of course there's always room in the car with me. I'm just catching up on a
big absence from ROFF, and by the sound of it may have to find a place to
stay, but I haven't missed it since we started and don't plan on doing it
now. I am close to Philadelphia Airport, 45 minutes or so. I haven't
figured out the schedule yet, it's a bit early, but I usually go up early,
and may even do a week ahead of time this year. If you find Philadelphia
to be one of your options, give me a heads up and I'll make up my mind.
