mitchell 300 repair questions

I've got an early to mid 60's 300 that has a couple minor issues.
1. The reel came with a low capacity spool minus the drag washer. It has the spring. Yet the .pdf I downloaded for mitchell 300/301 reels doesn't show a drag washer in parts diagram for the Ultra Lite spool. I've not been able to find a local shop yet that has an old one of these for sale to compare this one too. I'm assuming that this Ultra Lite spool did have a couple drag washers. Short of getting another spool has anyone made washers for these reels? I wonder if the drag washers in a penn 430 might retro fit into this spool with some trimming.
What type of material did the regular sized 300 spool use for drag washers? Was there a metal washer between it and the tension spring?

2. The gears make an excessive amount of noise. I know these aren't going to be quiet like a new shimano. But, I'm wondering if the pinion gear needs a couple more shims to tighten up the gear to the gear on the bottom of spool housing.

I do most of my own reel cleaning/repair. But I don't have any experience with the 300 series besides cleaning up this 300 and a 305 that I rescued from being "cleaned out" of a friends basement. The inside of this 300 was pretty ugly before I got all the crud out.

I'm don't know where you're located, but here's the name and address of a
company that has been fixing, repairing and cleaning fishing reels in the
Portland area for at least 30 years, and they have a great reputation. They
also have lots of spare parts, and if they don't have a part, I'm sure they
could tell you where to find it. I think it would be worth the cost of the
call.

I second that (couldn't remember the name). For the short two years I spent in
Portland, I stocked up on a lifetime supply of 30X series bail return springs
from him.
He should be able to help.

have a part number for that drag washer if Ollie Damon's can't help you.
