TR - Trout Pics

[Guy Thornberg]

Colorado was GREAT last week! It was a spur of the moment trip to Colorado
Springs. The wife was invited to attend a probate conference and asked if I
would like to tag along and trout fish while she attended the conference
(need she ask?) . Checked my advantage miles and we were off.

Got a guide for the first time in my life because I didn't have time to
research the area. That was the best decision I ever made (well, maybe
second best).
Met Jack at the Starbucks and headed up the mountain. An hour later we were
stringing up. Cold, intermittent snow, clouds, sun, water freezing on snake
guides and line. What a perfect day! Honestly! Lots of trout rising. We
tied on dries and headed for the water. I got my lesson on what and how to
fish these trout and started landing some. My 1/2 day trip turned into a day
trip and we were in competition. I must admit defeat...Jack is good. But I
will take a 30 fish day anytime. Approximate Score: Jack18 / Guy12. Many
good fish. Some pics are posted on ABPF. Files are pretty large.

If you could make them smaller so my ISP gets them, I'd appreciate it.

I bet you went to the South Platte near Deckers. Olives like a snowy day
and Deckers fishes well all Winter.

Hi Willi,
I suspect it was Eleven Mile Canyon. Angler's Covey, in Colorado Springs,
has a guide named Jack, and since the fires in the Cheesman area they don't
spend as much time in the Deckers area. Blue Quill, from Evergreen, still
does some time there. ( heh . . .heh . . .called Angler's Covey to verify
the part about location . . . I thought I recognized the rock outcrop in one
of the pics as being in the Eleven Mile Canyon area . . .didn't get a
definitive answer, cause the guide wasn't there . . .but me thinks :)

I'll squish this "Guy" person pics and put them on ABPF. I'll send you
another copy of each . . .just in case.

Thanks for the downsizing. That brings back memories. It was my old
stomping grounds. I lived about ten minutes away from Lake George and
fished the canyon alot. The section near the dam would have midge
hatches throughout the Winter.

That's a cool section of river. I had some strange catches in that
stretch of river. One Spring, I was deep drifting nymphs up by the dam
and caught a Laker of about 5 or 6 pounds. One Spring, 11 Mile Res
overflowed and it washed a bunch of big Pike into the river. I caught
several about 10 pounds and one close to twenty. VERY cool chasing a
Pike like that up and down the river. Talk about sight fishing, it was
like spotting submarines in the water. They were in small groups, I
think they were trying to spawn. You pick out the biggest fish and
through a big fly at it. Luckily they weren't able to survive in the
river. It was fun though.
