Hello folks,
I need to get my lines off the reels, and wish to make an
old style winder for the lines.
Has anyone ever seen any web sites giving design drawings or
construction details of what I am looking for.
I intend to make it out of mainly Brass Aluminum and Wood,it can be of
the static or folding type.
Thank you in advance for any help or advice,
All the best for now,
John.

John,
Do a google on plans for a swift, used in yarn making. You can also
buy one for less than 50 bucks. Also, one of the easiest ways to do
this is with a couple of pieces of dowel rod. Use one 18 inch long 1/2"
rod with a hole at the top and bottom (an inch in from the end). The
holes are at 90 degree angles from each other. Push a 12" long 1/4"
diameter or slightly larger piece of dowel through these holes so that
they are centered. Now just wrap the line on this, going from the top
dowel to the bottom, the other side of the top and the other side of the
bottom.
This will make a nice 18" skein out of your line. Fold over once when
you take it off and you've a nice 9" diameter loop.
This is perfect for winding the lines on and just costs a couple of
bucks to make.
