I have a friend who's been tying flies for many many years, who got me into
fly tying and fly fishing. He pronounces 'biot' as 'bot', as in hot. Now,
this fellow is from the great state of New Hampshire and you know how
'they' speak! My question is: what is the correct pronunciation of the
biot? Is it in fact 'hot' or is it bi-ot? And most important... do the
fish care?

Biot -> "By-ot", and NOT "bot" :o)

Biot is a village on the French Riviera and although you might think with
standard French pronunciation it would be BWAH, they pronounce it - bee-ott.
What this has to do with the biot used in tying flies, I have no idea.
