Reel repair

Need suggestions on a reel repiar center for two reels, a stradic and a
curado. Any recomondations?

Hey Randy,
If you have the schematic, look at the parts that are broken and
consider calling the company and ordering them yourself. I just replaced
$17 worth of parts on a $145 baitcaster, and it works like brand new.
Chances are, you can do the repair quite simply. Trick is to take it apart
slowly, then reverse the order to put it back. Look for the worn or broken
pieces...

back," has me laughing so hard at my specialized stupidity that I just about
fell off my chair. Some here know the details (unimportant here), but in my
working history I have been deeply involved in the creation of four major
professional developments/inventions (not counting SW); two in the aircraft
industry and two in the audio industry, but I have NEVER been able to
re-assemble a reel I took apart for cleaning or repair! Shame caused me to
just throw the loose parts away, being unaware at the time that I was not
alone in this shortcoming.

Don't be sorry Bob, maybe I just gots me the knack for it. I've been
taking stuff apart and putting it back together since I was at least five
years old. One of my favorite photos is me on the floor at home on my fifth
birthday, with my new toy car, disassembled beside me. My son is the same
way...he must have disassembled my daughters Barbies dreamhouse 10 times
before I gave up on stopping him!

This the third reel I've repaired. I do have a special way of laying
the parts out, in a line, and in order of removal, in the correct orienation
to just pick them back up and put them on the reel. I'm also very careful
about switching the orientation of the reel in my hand until I'm sure I have
a good feel for where everything goes on the inside. I look for major
"landmarks" in the reel that indicate how something should go back together,
like, this plastic piece goes back over these two posts, and presses on this
third piece, etc.

My two biggest fears - losing small springs and shaft clips (cause they
never want to come off easy). And probably most importantly, I never leave
a reel apart while I'm waiting on the parts to arrive!! I disassemble, find
the broken or worn part(s), then put it back together. Receive the parts,
then disassemble, replace, re-assemble. By this time, I'm pretty good at
knowing where everything goes...

If anyone follows my advice, and can't get their reel back together from
the schematic, send the reel and schematic to me and I'll keep
it....errr...uhhh...I mean take care of it..... :-)

I avoid, like the plague, taking my reels apart. I take everything else
apart, so it must be that "size (small) does matter".

If I am stuck with doing it ( I have one down and I need it soon) I am going
to put my digital camera to BIG usage. Every d%$# part is going to be
photoed before and after it comes off!
