View Full Version : Midge Swap

I'm wondering if anyone would be interested in a midge swap. With fall here
in full force, the fishing here in the northeast is shifting to small flies
and, for me, Spring Creeks. I was thinking of 6-8 people each tying enough
flies so that each swapper gets 3 of each pattern, that way we'll be able to
actually fish them without fear of losing our only killer pattern. Anyone
interested? I'll host the thing....

If the deadline is mid-November or later, I'd be interested.

How could I resist a line like that? If there's room I'd be a happy
participant. I'm liking midges more and more lately, and it would be nice
to see what others are fishing.

Cheers,
Bill

I'm in if the flies can be delivered before the San Juan Clave.

Hmmm. For the good of the swap, I'd be willing to drop out if Willi's in. I
can't tie much in the next few weeks, and Willi, from what I've heard, ties a
helluva lot better fly than I could hope to at this stage in my tying.

So far I count 5 people including me. If its not to soon, we could set the
deadline for the middle of October. Most of the midges I tie only take a few
minutes a piece, so it won't b ea problem for me to sit down for an hour
this week and whip them up. Is this OK for you guys?

Sounds great. I'll keep my eyes open for details.

If there's still room, I'm in for a larva, an emerger, and an adult that
floats! 24's all around.

So what makes you think you know anything about midge patterns? :-)

I haven't seen any dates posted yet, but I'll get started tying. Willi
mentioned the San Juan, and in that spirit I'd like to contribute a trio of
#24 Yong Specials (Andy Kim's version of the thread midge). I've not had
the opportunity to fish the SJ, but this little pattern has produced well
for me on a variety of waters...hopefully it'll trick a couple of San Juan
bruisers as well!

Cheers,
Bill

I've never joined a ROFF fly swap yet, but my tying skills are
pretty good with just plain thread :-)

I'd like to join but mid-OCT is way too soon of a deadline. I'm
going fishing for the 3rd time this year and I'm tying and preparing
for that (Bruiser: we'll be on the SJ this sat, sun, mon). If everyone
else is OK with mid-Oct, go ahead with your plans but count me out.
Otherwise, I could probably do end-Oct.

I think it's time to make some executive decisions. Of course, as
Swapmeister, that's up to you! What's the skinny? My opinion would be to
push to the end of Oct., but I'll get started right away on some #18
Griffith's Gnats.

Jon,
The end of October is fine. It's already the 6th, so its only a few weeks
away. It looks like there's a good numbe rof interested people so the extra
time is good. I'll e-mail everyone interested tonight and set the deadline
for October 31.
I'm really looking forward to this one. A whole hanful of midges..
