Anyone here ever flyfished Mauritius? Looks like I'm going for a week over
Easter Vacation, and from the Lonely Planet site, there are a lot of streams
on the island as well as some deep sea fishing. I'll definately bring my 9ft
6/7wt for SWFF, but am wondering if its worth bringing the 4 wt for the
inland streams.

Used to be you'd want to take a short wooden club for huntin dodo
birds, but I understand the action's gotten a little slow lately.

Kevin
BTW, I hope you're staying out of ferryboats lately.

Was that Mauritius? For some reason, I thought it was on some other island
nearer to Madagascar. Saw a special on TV last week that told how the Dutch
didn't club them all to death, as they weren't very good eating, but instead
the pigs they brought to the island for food regularly escaped and generated
a feral pig population that decimated the Dodo eggs, and killed them off in
pretty much one generation.

(But what does this have to do with SWFF and FWFF on the island?)

I've read that with a good dodo egg pattern the action on feral pigs can be
wide open. Better bring a 10WT.

Your close to prime Coelacanth area. Iif I remember correctly there have
been a few caught in that area. I think most have been caught in the
Mozambique channel. I have checked all my books and can't find any
Coelacanth patterns. Looks like you'll have to settle for the usual Indian
ocean species and the local beer.

Ahh, I see the problem. I forgot to translate my post into Roff street
language.

://: translation mode on:

"Nyah nyah nya-nyah nyah nyahh! I'm going to Mauritius!"

translation mode off ://: :-)

But seriously, folks. I don't know if the inland streams have any indigenous
catchable fish, are short, raging torrents, or if they are just trickles
down the mountainside with old shoes and garbage bags. But it seems that no
one here has been there, so I'll take my 4wt and see for myself, and post a
TR when I get back. :-)
