Though most 'flies' will work ice fishingWe use something developed by my
father and a couple others at Oneida Lake (NY) back in the 50s.

Ice Lice. This has become a generic term for a flie types dropper used for
perch, bluegill etc...

Our Ice Lice is superior because - It Floats.

The best way to fish is a drop shot type rig with two lines 8" apart and a 1/4
oz jig as the drop shot. A minow on the jig gives a little action. The ice Lice
with a couple Spikes or Mousie will float out from the main line. Get Ready fo
the Perch!!!

I also make a ice jig (flie like) called a Pro Football. This is a 1/16, 1/8 or
1/4 Football jig with a Cheniel body with a Hackle coller. Again tip with Spike
or Mousie and watch out for the pan fish.

And lastly another flie like jigs that I make is a Red Tail Jig Fly.
Origionally I made this for a customer in TN for Crapie & Bluegill. I gave them
a try thru the ice - Perch Love'Em! 1/90, 1/60 or 1/32 ball head. A long
colored Cheniel body, Red Tail (duck feather) and Hackle coller.

Tight Lines,

Try a couple drops of red hot glue on a size 10 hook and make a couple wraps
of black hackle between the glue drops.

A mini marabou Clouser minnow should work well.

I've had luck on occasion with a kernel of corn. I tie it like a thunderhead
with yellow bucktail. I use it on rainbows. The stocked variety, not too
smart.

Experiment with flies as droppers, anything small and buggy, using a little
panfish jig for weight on the end of the line. If you're after panfish, you
want the flies fairly small, with as much movement as possible. Chartreuse
is a good attractor color. Try the gold bead nymphs you use for trout. Jig
them very gently with the line in your hand, the best way to detect the
very light hits; 2-4 lb test max, wee corkies or other strike indicators
are good too. #12 is about as big as you want to go, though perch can eat
prey 1/3 their length. Rubber legs and flashy tinsel materials move and
flash nicely but skip the marabou, it takes a while to soak up water and
sink. Ice fishing is an absolute riot but don't go out till the ice is
safe.

size 18 or so scud hook , red or bright orange glass bead for head,
peacock herl body with a very sparse and short very bright orange
marabou tail works well for bluegills & other panfish on very light
line

large black woolybugger for walleyes

I use a sweet fly with which I cathc many "doubles" or perch. Kokanee
salmon hit it. Lake tour hit it, too.

tiemco 3761 size 8
white thread
white craft fur tail
crystal flash body
black craft fur under wing
white craft fur over wing
silver flash sides
white thread head with two permanent marker eyes
cement and fish with enough maggots to cover the hook

I usually use it above a very small tear drop jig for pan fish. I also fish
a #3 white swedish pimple with flourescent orange marker and a pink rat
finke dropper.
| mono
fly here
| 6 inches of mono
( ) #3 pimple (not from my ass, I save those...)
! 6-8" of mono
o-J pink rat finke size 12

knocks 'em

My buddy calls it "The Secret Hawaiian"

He has a "Secret Hawaiian" brook trout fly too, but that looks much
different and I can't share it...sorry
