Mail Order Fly Tying Shops

[Jim Ray]

I have been dealing with a bunch of fly tying material shops for several
years now (Kaufmanns, The Fly Shop, Blue Ribbon Flies, etc) but the one's
with really good selections all seem to be on the west coast. I have used
Hunters on the East, AA Outfitters, and a few others, but the selection
seems to always lead me toward placing orders with multiple companies - not
because of price but rather availability. The west coast guys are doing a
fine job, but I hate waiting a week and a half for my materials. Any east
coast suggestions for great mail order shops? BTW, I shop my local guy as
often as I can - but the selection is limited.

I'm not sure where you live, Jim, but Feather Craft in MO has been good about
getting stuff to me (Massachusetts) in just a few days:

Also, Walt at www.ezflyfish.com in NC has a decent selection and will ship via
priority mail.

Add Hook and Hackle to the two above, and you should be able to get anything
you, want or need.

Have you tried asking your local shops to order for you? Living here in the
Mid-West and having a desire to tie Atlantic Salmon flies and streamers, the
local shop doesn't carry the items I'm looking for. I asked about ordering
certain items for me and he has no problem with that.

Yeah, but then it takes two-three weeks, versus one week to get the order
from the west coast, and I have to drive across town to pick up the order
when it comes in. And then of course, I always end up buying something else
I don't need, visiting with the owner for an hour, trying out a few fly
rods, etc. Well, ...ah...maybe I should...ah....reconsider. That sounds
pretty good after all. What's an extra two weeks anyway?
