I have a TR17 Triton with a 120hp Force on it.I put my boat in at Lake
Oconee in Georgia, It is 32 miles from the ramp I use to the Damn. My boat
has a 26 gallon tank. If I leave the ramp with a full tank and run to damn
and back at WOT my boat will use a little over a quarter of a tank.of fuel.
I'm guessing it is getting about 8-9 miles per gallon. Its only gas and I
enjoy riding in my boat. As long as they still sell gas I'll keep riding.

Which ramp are you using at Oconee? How did you come up with 32 miles?

I was told this. I have a carburated 135 merc on a 17 champion. at
5000 rpm the 135 would burn 13.5 gallons per hour. for a 150 it would
burn 15.0 gallons per hour.

I have a 23 gallon tank. at 5000 rpm i run at 50 to 55 mph.

6 trips? wow, nice charles! small lakes and mostly trolling?

Just briefly going on the figures, I guess I averaged about 3.5 miles a
gallon this weekend on Dale Hollow. Not much WOT running, but alot of
pushing water going real slow in the darkness.

All,

Have to agree with the 10% of hp is the ball park figure for how many
gallons of gas your carberated (never could spell) outboard will burn in an
hour...
Lots of folks talking here in mpg and i just don't understand how you can
use that given the differences that current and wind can play in speed. I
have a smaller ob so maybe that's why it works for me...

The six trips is a guess... but not making any really long runs. Heck, Percy
Priest is only about 30 miles long following the channel from one end to the
other. I figure if I ran that distance and back, starting with a full tank
I'd be almost empty on my return. PP Sure seems smaller after that trip to
Dale Hollow, but huge after a trip to Boom.

I have a mercury 90 on a Key West 1720 (17 ft). I have noticed that
when running at about 3800 rpm my fuel consumption is much better
then when I run wide open (no dah), my point is I can go 20 miles on 3
gallons of gas (at 3800 rpm) versing wide open (5500 rpm) burning 6
gallons of gas going the same 20 miles. The speed difference seems to
only be a couple miles per hour difference and it saves a bunch of
money. Dang does this make any sence? I am even having a hard time
following my point.

I've never even tried to figure out miles per gallon with my boat. I have a 41 gallon tank and just
fill it up before or after each trip. Typically, I'll use about 6 - 15 gallons an outing, depending
on how heavy I am on the HotFoot.

I do know that at wide open throttle, I can burn 31 gallons of fuel an hour!

I think you'd need to figure gallons per mile... instead of miles per
gallon!

But you have to remember Charles, at that throttle setting, I'd be close to 100 miles away by the
time I ran out of fuel! If I keep the boat under 60 mph, it's not bad on gas at all.

I asked this question because I can not figure any way to run 32 miles from any
marina to the dam on Oconee. Maybe from Blue Springs to the dam and back? Just
wondering, maybe I don't know Oconee that well or know how to read my map.
