I started flyfishing about 10 years ago and started tying flies 9
years ago. I eventually sold all my fly tying gear aswell as other
belongings to go back to school. I went out today and bought most of
what I had in the past and started tying flies. Interestingly enough
I remember how to tie nymphs and dries without having to relearn.
Only thing I cant bloody remember is tying the not at the head.

I tried doing to loop nots (or at least what I think are loop nots)
and then put some head cement on the thread and it keeps but I want to
make sure Im notting correctly.

Also, I use to carry a tying kit to the rivers with me and turn some
rocks and tie what I saw. As of now, I have no flies (other than what
I have tied today) and curious if anyone on this newsgroup fishes the
grand river around guelph/fergus/elora area and would give me some
good nymph patterns to tie up for my first day down by the river.

I tied up some simple hares ear nymphs (using that same pattern with a
variety of different collored dubbin and light and dark wing shell
collorings).

Woolly buggers always served me well, but a few different patterns in
nymph (mayflie, cadis, stone fly) and there adult dry fly patterns.

I plan to go down to the river a week before opening week and turn
some rocks, but I want to get a few patterns tied up and get a little
arsenult going.

Thanks for any suggestions

Also, any sites to fly tying instructions would be greatly appreciated
aswell.

As for tying the whip finish (the knot you want,) check out:

For tying the knot by hand:
