I have a 1993 Evinrude Intruder 175h.p it won't start unless you let the
motor all the way down. It smokes real bad when you first start it, the
motor runs well at w.o.t. I'm planning on selling the boat soon so I
would like to work out the problems first.

Sounds like selling it will take care of the problem... :-)

I have a 1993 Evinrude 115hp. My boat smokes like crazy when you first start
it. I assume that is from gas evaporating away from the carb as it has sat
unused, while the oil remains, but I may be wrong. I always lower my motor
before starting anyway, so it has good access to water for the water
pump...so I can't really comment on that.

crimped fuel cable, perhaps a dirty fuel filter. I would check the simple
stuff first.

Try some Stabil for the smoke problem. Mine use to smoke regularly as well,
I put in Stabil every 3rd tank and it helped a bunch

My merc dumps the gas out of the carbs when the motor tilts up. It is
supposed to. Perhaps yours just needs to be adjusted.
