I've recently snapped my rod (Abu Zeus) while fishing on heavy ground
(rock/boulders) I am looking to purchase a new rod and would like advice on
what type of make/model would be suitable for me. a cast of 100 yds with 2/3
lug is usually used and cod can be expected in the region 3-8 lbs. any
advice offered would be greatly appreciated

For the last 3 years I've been using an Abu Endeavour Bass Rod. I think
it's a fantastic rod for the money ( I paid around £75 for it). Ideal for
hoiking out a 4oz lead and you can also use it for plugging / spinning if
there are any bass around.

Hope this helps,

Well if you usually use three hook traces, then it's not what I'd
regard as heavy-ground fishing.
If I used that on Yorkshire/Northumberland rock marks I wouldn't
expect to get my gear back too often.

Best value I found for a rod for the really heavy stuff, was an Abu
Suveran Tournament, but I think they've been discontinued. You might
still be able to pick one up though for between £125 and £150.
They are capable of very long casts if your technique and physique are
up to it (mine aren't) and a 100 yard cast should be no problem.
I've heard good reports about the Abu Conolon (13ft version) as well.
http://www.spottydogtackle.com/ are doing them for about £90

For mixed ground fishing I use a Century CM, which would probably be
strong enough for the heavy stuff as well, but is a better casting rod
for my style, and a good rod for clean beaches as well.
The Century G5 is also a reasonable rod, and is a bit cheaper.

I agree, the suveran is a great rough ground rod, I use the sport version
and have no problems, it's a very powerful rod.
