Accomodation recommendation in SW Wales?

Can anyone suggest a good accomodation in Southern Wales, one that provides
river access to multiple fishing venues and a bed, for a reasonable price?
I'm finding the combination of unfamiliar access laws (the club permit
system) and an unfamiliarity with the rivers and towns to be making it a
chore to figure out the best place/region to stay, and the best river to
fish. I'm interested in something smallish like a single bed cabin, or a B&B
(I'll probably be travelling alone) and not too expensive....maybe no more
than 25 pounds a night. I want access to trout/salmon streams, as well as
advice/access to sewin fishing. So far, the Tawe (Towy?) river looks like a
real winner, but I can't really tell if some of the accomodations I have
researched are reasonable. And those names....wow! :-)

Sorry this is so open-ended, but Wales is a new place for me, and I don't
have much background knowledge to go on. So if someone has a favorite place,
or a brother-in-law with a business, send me a recommendation.

Caution here with spelling/ pronunciation. The River Towy runs from near
Llandovery to Carmarthen - quite a different prospect from the River
Tawe which flows down the Swansea Valley to Swansea.

The Towy is probably a better river than the Tawe.

The Towy has suffered less from the ravages of early 20th century
industry than the Tawe, and flows through some beautiful countryside.

Yeah, I noticed that about a half hour after I posted. I found a fishing
lodge in the Towy watershed (the Edwindsford Estate in Llandielo) which
boasted of some terrifyingly large Sewin and salmon, but the accomodations
sounded very expensive. Do you know anything about that region, or of any
accomondations in the Towy watershed? I'm also still looking at Brecon, but
it looks like if I rent a suite at the lodge in Llangamarch Wells, I can
access both regions (Towy and around Brecon), but then, that might be too
much water to try fish in 5 days.

What have you heard of as the best water in the region for trout, salmon and
sewin?

I have never fished the Towy but it has a justly deserved reputation for
salmon and Sewin (interesting that you know this name for sea trout!)

Not much further upstream from Llandeilo the river suffers from being
fed by the Llyn Brianne Reservoir. This supplies the river with cold
anaerobic water which renders the upper reaches of the Towy a bit
sterile - or so I'm told.

I think your best bet is the Brecon/Builth area for easier access to the
rivers Wye and Usk. The River Usk starts its life in the Western hills
of the Brecon Beacons and passes through the Usk Reservoir not far from
a village called Trescastle. You can enjoy some fairly cheap still water
fishing here where Rainbow trout predominate.

For camp site accommodation contact the Brynich Camping and caravan Site
at Brecon.

I have a friend who has researched fishing in different parts of Wles
and I hope he will give me some useful pointers for both fishing
possibilities and Hotels etc.

You've worked it out pretty well...

For trout (and grayling) the tributaries of the Wye (eg, the Irfon
around Llangammarch Wells) are excellent.

For sewin the Towy, Welsh spelling Tywi [1], is your best bet and in
June they'll be well up the river. My earliest, in the Llandeilo area
(many years ago) was 27th April. You realise that fly fishing for sewin
is by night, do you..? You have to know the water but fishing it before
dark (to get to know it) is counter-productive..!

Salmon fishing is no longer great... I wouldn't bother... You could
try the Wye in Builth Wells or the Towy but you'll be lucky to find many
salmon in June... Concentrate on trout by day and sewin by night...

Llandovery is central and you'll probably get B&B there for £25 (less
perhaps)... Googling "B&B Llandeilo" or "B&B Llandovery" produces
plenty of places with email addresses...


[1] as Bill pointed out, not to be confused with the Tawe... Towy,
Tywi, Tawe are all pronounced similarly by those who are sloppy and even
locals get confused. And we definitely don't want the r.o.f.f lot
thinking the fishing is any good in the Tawe...

I was speaking with an angler who lives not far from Brecon who was
complaining the there wasn't much fish life in the USK at Sennybridge (W
of Brecon). This surprises me as I was always under the impression that
this was a particularly "nice" bit of river.
