Starlites - any good?

With the shorter days I sometimes feel like fishing on for an extra hour or
two after dark. I've seen an advert for Starlites - little stick things
that fit inside hollow float tips. When activated they glow. Anyone used
them?
I'd like to know.
Are they any good at distance or do you need to fish close in to see them?
Once activated, how long does one Starlite glow for?
The pack I'm considering buying comes with a set of floats but, once all the
Starlites are used, are replacements commonly available in tackle shops?

Close in - it need's too much concentration far out. Ever tried watching a
small light for 2hrs ;-)

6+ hrs easily

Yes - loads available, different sizes. I also the lites taped taped to my
quivertip

OK up to about 15-20 yards.

They'll still give about half-light next morning.

I didn't know they made special floats - only ever used the lights
themselves attached close to an ordinary float with a rubber. In clear
water you can still see them glowing six or more feet down...

They are advertised in a Bennett's of Sheffield catalogue that was slipped
into one of the angling weeklies (Angling Times I think). The floats are
clear with removable orange tips. You put a Starlite in the float, then
shot it up as normal and start fishing. When it gets too dark to see you
remove the tip, activate the Starlite, replace the tip and carry on fishing
without the need to re-shot your setup. They sound like useful accessories
so I think I'll get them. Trouble is if I get many more 'useful'
accessories, I'll need a team of Sherpas to carry them all :-)

Right I've used these little beggars for ages
Tip one close in

Tip two if you need to freeze then after starting them will stop the
chemical reaction thaw it out and off it goes again -managed two two hour
sessions with one stick on me Beachcaster

Tip three Use one on your hooklength when fishing for BIG eels (and Flat
fish if your sea fishing)

they come in two colours and two sizes the bigger ones last longer and
freeze the best (I'm a tightwad )
