Can anyone please give me any tips on the following:

What is the best way to know exactly where your hook/bait is, so i can then
throw groundbait/particles etc. into the right spot. I end to cast out,
then use groundbait etc. but not really knowing if i am feeding in the exact
spot my bait is in.

I can't be arsed with markers etc...I much prefer to put freebies inside a pva
bag along with the hook and lead, then when the bag melts the hookbait is
presented on top of a bed of pellets, groundbait or whatever you like, just be
sure if you're using sweetcorn to dust it in groundbait mix or some other powder
or it will melt through the bag before you've cast it out!
Aslo, carp are sometimes wary of high concentrations of food in this manner so
it's better to spread particles/feeder pellets etc over quite a large area to
get them 'browsing', preferably with your hookbait amidst alll the freebies -
all waters are different so it's better to have a few different approaches.

The classic answer is to use a float. A windbeater with bulk shot deep will
show up any sub-surface drift too.

If you must ledger then the easiest method in calm conditions is to pick a
reflection - say the top of a particular far-bank tree and drop both tackle
and bait onto that.

Very often you will send up a few bubbles as the tackle disturbs the bottom;
use them as your target but it doesn't help much with subsequent casts.

Sometimes you don't want to bait a spot so much as a line. Bait lightly
along a suitable line - towards a distinctive distant mark - and try to get
fish to follow the line to your bait.

Other methods include using a marker direct on the line alone or conjunction
with the line clip on the reel. All methods mentioned above work it depends
on the situation really (and your own preference) but it should be quite
easy to achieve the desired result.

I find the best way to fish is to use a marker rod with braid (couldn't
believe the difference from mono) to find the spot to fish and pull back a
foot or so. Let the marker float up to the surface and then bai up with
groundbait etc. Then cast out with the rod you will fish with so it hits a
foot or so beyond the marker float. Tighten up, put the line in the reel
clip and then put a piece of electrical tape on say the 3rd ring making a
note of a point on the far bank to cast to.Trim the tape so it's tidy.
Put fresh bait on and cast out to the same aiming point and then take the
line out of the clip. If you have a fish or need to recast simply cast out
and wind back until the tape is in the same position and repeat the process.
This way you can hit the same spot even in the dark. Very useful if you are
fishing to the far margins close to a bush/tree etc.
If tou need to add additional feed, either cast out and watch where it ends
up (having additional feed ready to fire out) or again clip up on your
marker rod, cast this out and bait up to the marker float.
It works for me so hope this helps.

2 jobs done, 1 is it will protect you hook point and 2 when it starts to melt it will rise to
the surface and tell you where to bait up.
