View Full Version : Which rod and reel setup(s) should I use? - Revisited

Hello ROFB'ers
Way back on 4/22/02, I made a posting under this heading. The best advice, at
that time, came from Craig Baugher & Dan. They informed me (in their (super)
opinions) that I had too many "wimpy" rods :)

Since than, I've beefed up my collection based on research, and the opinions
expressed here by many of the knowledgeable posters. For this information, and
the increase in hook ups, I am grateful.

When I started to beef up my rod arsenal, I found the selection process
intimidating. As an inexperienced angler, I was confused about all the
different uses, powers, actions, types, and manufacturers out there. In order
to help me make the right selections, I made up a matrix, as a guide, on
everything I could learn about these items.

I figured if it helped me, maybe it could help others. Although this guide is
based on one person's research (knowing that opinions are wide and varied on
this subject matter), it could probably be improved upon by the opinions and
critiquing of more knowledgeable experts.

I would like to offer this guide, in a virus free Excel format, to the folks
who care to look at it and comment. If you feel it is a good tool, I'd like to
offer it as an addition to the ROFB FAQ.

Thanks.
Joe Dressel

PS: I don't intend on using / forwarding your e-mail addresses either.

Hey Joe,
If you'd like, you can send it to me, and I'll throw it into HTML format
and put in on the web so you can send a link for people to review. Let me
know...

I have taken Joe's excel format Rod Research and formatted it for viewing on
the ROFB website. If you would like to view it, here is the address:

http://www.rofb.net/rodresearch/

Please let me know if you have trouble with it. I believe Joe is trying to
beef up the research with any enhancments/suggestions you guys might have.
I have looked through his research and found it to be a pretty good generic
intorduction to fishing rod choices.

After any suggestions have been included, I would be happy to add this as a
suggested addition to the FAQ, if you guys think it is appropriate.

Thanks!
