I recently completed a trip with Great Alaska to Jungle Tarpon Lodge in
Costa Rica.

The experience was much less than satisfying.

They promised many things and failed to deliver on several.

The problems started immediately. I booked 7 months in advance. I was
totally flexible as far as timing was concerned. I asked only that I go when
the tarpon fishing was the best. They told me that February was the best
time. I found out when I got there that actually the best time was either
October or April when the Caribbean was calm. We had 9 half days to fish and
only 3 half days did we get on the ocean. However the lodge was quiet in
February so I guess they felt it was a good time to send me. The fishing was
very poor.

Next they promised a charter flight across Costa Rica to Quepos for one and
a half days of off shore fishing. The charter flight did not exist and we
had to take a van ride to San Jose and a flight from there. As a result we
were late getting to Quepos and missed out on one half day of off shore
fishing.

Then, even though we booked out hotel 7 months in advance and were promised
a hotel with an ocean view and walking distance to the beach for five days,
we ended up in an out of the way hotel with a room 107 steps down a cliff
from the hotel entrance. Our room was so small that you couldn't open your
suitcase and walk around at the same time. The ocean view did not exist and
the beach was no where to be found.

I have called, emailed and written to Great Alaska. There has been no reply
to my inquiries.

I would not travel with Great Alaska again and would be careful recommending
them to others.

Steve Wells.

That's too bad. Costa Rica is amazing. It's unfortunate that you got screwed
over by this unscrupulous company. Thanks for posting the warning. I guess
that's the only other recourse, making sure other people know about
"con-artist" companies.
