I normall try to get out before light during the summer. Now, with the
water temps in the low 60's, is first light still a good time to be out?
Or, is the warmth of later in the day better?
Thanks

The dawn twilight is still the highest percentage period of th e day in my
book -- right through the fall. ESPECIALLY where smallies are concerned.
I can't even begin to count the number of times when the early bite -- even
when I had to break a mile or two of skim ice to get to my spot -- was hot,
and by 8:00 or 8:30 when the next boat finally showed, it was all over.
It's not a sure thing by any means. But if I had one hour to fish, that's
the one I'd choose.

Before I make my next statement, let me say, I agree that first light has
always been very good to me too.
However, most state and world record fish were caught between the hours of
11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. So what with this? first light numbers, mid day
size. Must take those big'o'girls a few hours to get up and put their faces
on. ;-)

Give me a calm, sunlit day with water temps around 50, I'll sleep in & fish
between noon & 3. I love October...

Right on Warren! Lake Sharpe for me Sunday.
Smallmouth in the morning and Walleyes for the table in the afternoon.
Pheasant opener here in SD so I will have the water to myself!
80 degree forecast. Too nice to hunt. Joe Z.
