In my opinion it's a slippery slope and it's about as far from true
conservative principles as it can get. I'm (normally) pretty
apolitical in public, but it kills me what kind of **** "conservative"
politicians are getting away with these days, not to mention our
current "conservative" fiscal policy!

They are not "conservatives:" that's a pc term they've latched
on to, as well as "neocon," to avoid the much more accurate
right-wing extremist label.

I remember years and years of
conservatives spraying the "tax and spend" label at anyone they didn't
agree with. The shoe's on the other foot and we're spending like
drunken sailors. 500 Billion in Iraq? Please.

Liberal Dems were "tax and spend." The right wing is "spend." It's
a cop out: they don't have the courage or the moral gumption to make
us pay for their excesses, figuring that it's safer to push it on a
future
generation that will never have the choice of voting against them.

well, looks like we're going to need another currents events guru.

A few quick points:

1. NSA doesn't have to monitor everyone. All they gotta do is tell their
computers to look out for key words and to figure out how often (and how
much) who talks to whom. If they find:
LaCourse calling Snedeker
and Snedeker calling RDean
who subsequently telephones RW
who subsequently contacts Wolfgang,
who calls me and I call someone in Libya using the same key words as in all
of the other conversations,
then they might figure something untoward is afoot. And, as I remember
reading on a potato chip package many years ago, it is "untouched by human
hands".

2. The current administration, IMHO, has the most flagrant "end justifies
the means" philosophy of any administration since Franklin Roosevelt tried
to pack the supreme court.

The idea of power aggrandizement into the executive is frightening. Imagine
Huey Long or Tailgunner Joe as President with precedents for abuse of civil
liberties that have been set by this administration. This country has a thin
veneer of civilization, and it's surprisingly easy to convince people of
just about anything. Without a strong and assertive judiciary and congress,
and a damned free press, we'd be in trouble pretty damn quick.

Propaganda sneaks up on you.

Lybya! That *******! Damn rich guys do anything, ANYTHING! to charge a call
on someone else's nickel. Damn!

I was surprised when I heard that the CIA is said to be less than 20% of the
intelligence budget, and the reciprical.

Just curious: How many people has the ALF killed so far? How about
PETA? :-)

Dave

As of 2002, the FBI estimated about $45 million in damage from vandalism
and arson in the US since 1996, all attributable to ALF/ELF, and they are
much more active in Europe than in the US. Physical attacks are in their
arsenal as well.

I don't know that they've killed anyone yet, but they have blown up cars
and trucks with people in them.

From FBI testimony to the House:

"The most destructive practice of the ALF/ELF is arson. The ALF/ELF
members consistently use improvised incendiary devices equipped with
crude but effective timing mechanisms. These incendiary devices are often
constructed based upon instructions found on the ALF/ELF websites. The
ALF/ELF criminal incidents often involve pre-activity surveillance and
well-planned operations. Members are believed to engage in significant
intelligence gathering against potential targets, including the review of
industry/trade publications, photographic/video surveillance of potential
targets, and posting details about potential targets on the internet."

In 2002, the investigations involve 26 FBI field offices.

If PETA has been funneling money, they have a level of responsibility as
well.

Having known people directly threatened by ALF associates, it's no
laughing matter.

You hear and read things now that you know would not
have been acceptable 5 years ago. Bin Laden has succeeded
in one very fundamental way: he has very signficantly affected
our behavior, outlook, and standards, largely for the worse.

Scott, please lets not go overboard. We wouldn't want people to get the
wrong impression that libs exaggerate threats. (Fill in all that other stuff
you said a few posts ago). Bahahahahahahahaha.

Or maybe if you had paid attention to what I said about the ineffectiveness
of federal police approaches, and how AUDITORS are the folks you want to
call in when you are tracking money . . . then you wouldn't be filling your
post with crap the FBI puts out to justify their fat laden budgets.

Or maybe its more effective to label folk on the other side of an issue as
terrorists? I am part Irish you know and thats been used against even the
mildest forms of Irish nationalism and cultural expression.

I don't find PETA funny, nor am I cozy with the crazies of the Right, Aryan
Nations for example. But I sure as hell do not want an open season on weird
Americans, staffed primarily by trigger happy Eastcoast FBI college boys,
directed by fat assed, half asleep supervisors by cell phone from D.C.. I
think I prefer state and local law enforcement.

So neither ALF, nor PETA (which you slur by association) have killed anyone,
but evidently you and the FBI think they are a big terrorist threat. Would
that be bigger than MS-13? How about the Russian mob(s)?

And I guess you've heard by now that the list of orgs the FBI has penetrated
has expanded a bit since you cautioned me, right?

Oh, and what does "hak mir nisht ken tshaynik" mean. I got the hak
mir=peace bit, but the rest is Greek to me. Or maybe Russian? The only
Western Slav language Ive sampled is Czech, but I don't think its Czech.

Anyway, "Na zdravi!" "Zlom vaz!"

Clinton, however, *was* guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice.
You know that, I know that, the entire country knows that,

I do agree that he lied under oath when asked about sex w/ Monica; but I
am unfamiliar with the legal definitions/requirements/etc. for perjury.
It's always been my opinion that he lied in response to a question he
should never have been asked; so yeah, I'll admit I'm a bit forgiving on
that one; and I can honestly say that I'd give W the same pass.

Unfortunately, Clinton brought it on himself and I was pullin' for a
conviction under impeachment. Clinton, not Nader, got Georgie-boy sellected
for POTUS the first time around, and 9-11 and fear of homosexuals got him
elected the second time around. Thank Allah, there isn't a third term
possibility!
