Unfortunately, as a citizen of an occupying nation, it is very difficult to liberate those whom you have occupied? I sincerely hope that I am never liberated by anybody at all. I sincerely hope that your hope is realized! Personally, I'm hoping for some sort of possession--bodily or otherwise. Mark TL MC |

"Wayne Harrison" wrote in message m... mike's observations match mine, almost precisely. and, while i can understand your response, i just don't think you can outlast the windmills. yfitons wayno (cervantes and wisconsin are a universe apart) Well, as you pointed out, I don't live on anything as lofty as the Andalusian Plains and, as Jeff correctly observed, what we face here is nothing like the giants Don Quixote had to contend with. Mosquitoes don't require lances or fiery steeds. You just swat them as they come around. Small evils left untended have a tendency to grow. Mosquitoes, in and of themselves, are generally nothing more than a nuisance. However, they DO carry yellow fever, dengue, west Nile, and a host of other greater ills. Smacking the little *******s will not guarantee safety from malaria, but every little bit helps......and besides, it's simply what one does. In the long run, nobody outlasts the mosquitoes, but we still kill them whenever they get in range. and that is such a waste of a very good mind. As many have so generously taken the time to point out, there's nothing like consensus on the quality of that mind. At any rate, reflexive actions like swatting don't tax it all that much. I find that what little is left is more than sufficient to my simple needs. :) Wolfgang |

"Jonathan Cook" wrote in message ... SNIP I saw that David Snedeker agreed with RD and Dave, I'd sure like to hear your take on things. I don't know alot about the energy business but it seems hard to dismiss the idea that y'all's five year old kids might never own a gasoline-powered car (or any car for that matter), than we right now will be the last ones who can drive across country or fly around the world simply to flyfish... Jon My thinking in this area is not very developed or probably convincing. But since you asked. . . . Basically I see in the little travel that Ive done that our (US) wasteful usage of oil isn't the only way. Even in Europe they get lots more movement per unit of fuel. Second, I don't think we know everything thats in the earth or everyway to get it out. And while much of the US has been plumbed, it looks to me that maybe half the planet is still a mystery. Thirdly, I am amazed at how much energy I release from a chunk of fast growing maple from the hedgerow around my little place. Which is to say that I don't think we have scratched what there is to get from even the most basic carbon fixing cycles. Personally Im more concerned about fallout from the greenhouse effect, than our ability to adapt technically, socially and economically to changes in the supply of oil. In the short term, I am very concerned about the archaic geopolitical approach of our country to oil, and even more concerned with that of the Chinese. But thats another rant. :-) Happy New Year.
