1. Most of the fly fishing equipment is sold on the west coast
2. Orvis is an east coast company, and does very poorly on the the west
coast. (they also did very poorly on the east coast when Redington was

going
great guns)
3. This "marriage" will give Orvis the exposure they need on the

nationally
in order to survive.

Comments?

Hi,

Not so much a comment as a question -
Where did you get the info that would lead to the previous two statements?
Orvis has been in business since 1866, I do not think their "survival" is in
doubt, and they did just fine even when Reddington et al were here.
BI'd be interested in your very first comment though - FF gear is sold
mainly on the left coast? That would come as a huge surprise to some
marketing types I know...

ps - Vermont isn't really on the east Coast either, if one wished to be
precise....

Quite happily shopping I went,
to buy lettuce was my full intent,
perhaps carrots too,
for a nourishing stew,
but the lettuce was wilted and spent.

Then my heart very near missed a beat,
I thought that it might be the heat,
it did not quite sieze,
at the sight of the fleas,
and the cockroaches eating the meat.

I just donīt know how they can dare,
to offer such terrible fare,
in fact I think,
I will drum up a stink,
and then take my business elsewhere.

Indeed I would like to propose,
that you donīt try to buy any clothes,
of course I have tried,
with insecticide,
but the fleas still attacked me in droves.

What do you mean by "A smell"?
you can take your remarks straight to hell,
with Chanel No. 5,
I valiantly strive,
and it covers my odour quite well.

"Donīt scratch it, wash it!", you say?
and then let the poor fleas have their way,
it wonīt get infected,
if early detected,
unless thereīs a plague on the way.

Now rats are a different matter,
beware of their innocent patter,
because when they bite,
itīs a terrible plight,
you may go as mad as a hatter.

So, back to the lettuce once more,
that was piled on the tables and floor,
I really felt jilted,
because it was wilted,
and I just will not buy any more.

I spread the glad tidings around,
reporting what I had found
But now Iīm subdued,
at being well sued
these limp lettuce lawyers abound!

Indeed I most greatly resent,
these sales with malicious intent,
I am limp, and have fleas,
and a judge must appease
but Iīm damnned if Iīll ever repent!

That takes hardly any time at all, but looking AT them does take a little
longer.

Not to side-track the thread or anything, but now that the weather has
warmed and the Roman girls have taken to wearing next to nothing at all,
I can verify that sometimes even the least little bit of clothing
requires considerable study.....

So you've been checking out the fabric quality? :)

Hm.......well, I've never been to Rome, so I can't speak with any authority
to the issue of the sartorial habits of the young ladies there. However, I
have made an extensive study of such matters elsewhere. Not to appear
contentious or anything, but it has been my experience that the very paucity
of clothing you allude to makes it very clear that it is next to a great
deal more than nothing at all.

Wolfgang
not that there's anything wrong with that! :)

Years ago, Sears pulled the same stuff on their suppliers.

It's not that big of a surprise. Orvis bought Redington to get
exposure into the lower end market. The elitist market just isn't
big enough. If you could sell 10,000 high-end flyrods at $500 profit or
100,000 low-end flyrods at $100 profit which would you do?

I'd sell 10,000 high-end rods and be happy with the $5M profit and my
good name, thank you very much.

When manufacturers make deals with Wal Mart, they often regret it. Wal
Mart quickly becomes the company's biggest customer, and then they
squeeze margins ruthlessly. Eventually, when the manufacturer can't keep
up, Wal Mart takes the business overseas, and ****s over the original
partner.

Great. Another boy masturbating with a thesaurus.

DING! Wrong again my sweet little silver lining, I use neither a dictionary
nor a thesaurus, not even a spell checker. I rely on my native wit, and
accrued knowledge. Probably best for you not to try it, no telling what
would happen. You would in any case have to learn to write in English first.

Oh, I donīt drive a Lincoln, I have no shares in Wal Mart, ( or anything
else), and my jackets are mainly Gore-Tex. I am not exactly a "boy" any
more either, although I do try to stay young in outlook.

Bye bye sweetie. Do have a pleasant day.

Around here (Rochester NY), Wal Mart hasn't made much of a dent
in that category.

That's because Wegman's is in town, which is
probably the best there is in the supermarket
business, and Tops also competes very well.

Wegman's is great, but also not so great for the small business
owner. They compete with pharmacies, dry cleaners, video rental
places, pet stores, and some restaurants.

Scott

Pharmacies: Not any more. There's no such thing (around here) as a
locally owned pharmacy.

And why do you thing that is? The last indep. pharmacy I remember around
here was the Village Drugstore in Pittsford, closed about five years ago.
As my dad spent his life as a pharmacist, he had a chat with the owner of
that store, and what do you think he had to say?

I'm sure CVS, Rite Aid and Eckerd have no
problem competing with Wegman's.

Dry cleaners: That's an issue.

Video rental: No locally owned stores left. And, Wegman's is
definitely NOT the source of Blockbuster's problems. NetFlix - that's
their competition.

Netflix is the big problem today, but independent stores still exist, and
have been only borderline viable since way before netflix. Try Hyatt's
Classic Video in Piano Works in East Rochester. It's really a great
local resource. According to that guy, there are still four or five
independent vid stores around, and all having some measure of trouble (at
least those that don't go X).

Pet stores: No locally owned stores left, except for one whose main
business is tropical fish, and they're doing serious business, since
nobody else in town knows what they're talking about in that segment.

There are even some good chain-type pet stores known for their fish. One
in Greece comes to mind.

Restaurants: Don't be silly. :-)

That one was a stretch. We have more restaurants per capita than I can
understand.

Some of them have rhyming dictionaries. Wou may be subjected to juvenile
poetry. It may take you back the forth grade if you went to a school in a
low life neighborhood.

I bet Wou is pretty ****ed off eh? Forth grade? The firth of Forth?

You are a real treasure BJ, a living monument and warning to those who
wonder what might happen if they were ignorant, biased and stupid.
Doubtless you will trot along nicely with Kanter, which will open up whole
new areas of sordid silliness nobody wanted to visit.

If I had time, Iīd write a rhyme, about some slime,
but time is short, I must resort, to lesser sport,
this is sad, although Iīm glad, for what Iīve had.

Yep, makes the carrots go soft as well, they are just about useless for
anything else after that.

Recipe for Cream of Lettuce Soup

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
2 cups milk
2 cups water
1 head of lettuce
2 slices of onion
1 small carrot
1 small piece of Seleriac ( Root celery)
3 tablespoons cold water

Wash and chop the lettuce finely. Dice the carrot.Put the lettuce in a pot
with 2 cups of water.
Add the salt, sugar and onion. Cook slowly for 20 minutes. Heat the milk in
a double boiler.
Blend the cornstarch with 3 tablespoons of cold water and then
pour into the hot milk. Cook until it thickens slightly. Add the lettuce and
butter
and serve. Add freshly ground black pepper to taste.
