I've yet to meet an infallible person. EVERYONE makes mistakes. It's how
a person deals with the mistakes he's made that's important. What is
labeled as flip flop , isn't necessarily a bad thing and what is
labeled as consistency and steadfastness could be a disaster.
Realizing that you have made a mistake and changing your actions to
rectify that mistake is MUCH better, IMO, than to continue to be
steadfast in your opinion when you are wrong.

Clinton made a HUGE mistake. It almost brought him down. He eventually
owned up to it and apologized to the country, and reasonable people
didn't hold it against him, because he ended his second term with a very
high approval rating, somewhere around 60%.

Less recently, JFK admitted his mistake on the Bay of Pigs debacle.

Another example -- a negative example -- was Nixon in the Watergate
scandal. The best we got from him was "Mistakes were made..." - that
weaseling use of the passive voice. His refusal to take responsibility
brought him down.

Admitting a mistake, especially when it's obvious to everyone, is not
necessarily political suicide. Doing the contrary may well be, or at
least I hope so in this election.

Yes, that is how it looks. But there's no choice. A non-religious person
could never get nominated, let alone elected.

Well, let me be the first of the agnostic hordes to say, HALLELUJAH!

And not just agnostics or
atheists - just being unwilling to join or attend a church would blacklist
you for a large part of the American public.

Another reason to go fishin' early on Sunday!

While a small boy, I once got hit in the nuts with a roll of shiny new
nickels. I defy anyone not to believe under similar circumstances.
:(

Wolfgang
who has yet to be hit in the nuts by any god or any politician's high
principles. :)

I rather fear it is merely a matter of time. A rather unfortunate property,
peculiar to politicians, is that they get paid for waltzing around, ****ing
about, lying, misrepresenting, cheating, and scheming, ( in many cases
purportedly at the behest of higher authority, for the existence of which
there is not a shred of proof), and hitting other people in the nuts. Not
believing in politicians, believing in politicians, or even worse, believing
politicians, is no guarantee for the safety of the family jewels either.

While I can understand and accept ( although reluctantly), that politicians
are generally arseholes in drag, I simply fail to understand how any
sensible angler could possibly become involved with, or allow himself to be
influenced by such ignorant unprincipled riff-raff.

It is even more unlikely that God will deign to hit you in the nuts, at
least not before he ( if he has any sense at all, and assuming his existence
in the first place), instigates another instance of a burning Bush. There is
also a magnificent choice of much more worthwhile targets, ( excluding
collateral damage), before your nuts would even be considered.

Therefore, after considerable deep rumination, and the rabid application of
Occam´s knife, I am moved to bet you a shiny new nickel, that your nuts, at
least as far as God is concerned, are more or less safe for the moment.

This wager, assuming your acceptance, does not extend to incidental damage
instigated or executed in the course of any possible encounters with any
generic or indeed specific item of shrubbery, incandescent or otherwise.

Just in case, will you take Euros?
