It amazes me when I see guys out on the lake taking crappie and perch, I
figure they are single or don't have much in common with their family

I used to ice fish. Caught loads of smallies from warramaug and

candlewood.
But I never really got any kick out of it, and it's way too much work. My
kid, on the other hand, likes ice fishing almost as much as real fishing.

A true story. . . Several years ago while sitting around lunch table at the
office one of the U of Mich. double mastered grads piped up that she had
been up to the northlands of Mich to look at some condos. She liked one real
well, but passed on it. When asked why, she advised she didn't even tell the
real estate agent, but the hundreds of shantys in the field behind the place
just wouldn't do! It was winter. . . can you guess what she was looking at?
I think U of Mich. should give her her money back. . . or she the diplomas.

Well, she still would have had to look at them for 3 months every year, and
that wouldn't do, either.

Some years ago, before I discovered the joys of not ice fishing, a bunch of
us were out on Candlewood. For the most part, homes surrounding C'wood are
out of the price range of people who actually work for a living. These days
they probably average 3 mil or more. there were 8 or 9 of us out there ice
fishing in this one cove, and about 11 am, some Michal Bolton lookin' dude
in a big fur coat and fur boots comes trudging across the ice and tells us
that he, "...payed way too much for this view to have to look at a bunch
of rowdies out here peeing on the ice and messing things up."

One of the guys in the party was a rather large (6-6 350 pound type) guy
with "up yours" attitude. This guy is standing there telling him how he's
going to call the police, and the lake patrol. Steve reaches down to the
well we have cut in the ice for our catch, grabs a yellow perch, bites it
head off, and holds the headless fish out to the guy. "Wanna bite?"

He left. I'm thinking the house went on the market soon thereafter.

You could always try Ice Fishing

If God meant us to fish in the winter, he wouldn't put a lid on the lakes.

God did mean for us to fish in the winter - the lid on the lakes is
there to keep out the riff-raff.....the jet-ski's and the ski boats.
