You can usually get the Patagonia lightweight jacket for around $100 at
closeout places like sierra trading post. I have one and it's been real
good and it packs up really tiny. That would be good for you, Chris, given
the amount of gear you bring (g).

Yep. I chose a closeout Patagonia kayak jacket. It is a pullover style
breathable with very nice neoprene cuffs around the wrists and neck. I
layer with fleece underneath to keep me warm. Judicious use of the neck
cuff allows for control of body heat retained under the jacket.

In completing my winter/spring fly fishing regalia, I have come to the
place
where I need to replace my leaking (damn near drowned fishing with
Bugcaster
in his wonderful driftboad during a healthy rain storm at the Oregon coast
last year -thankfully it was warm and I did catch a few fish ;) jacket.

For the money, this Cabelas jacket does a good job. I purchased this jacket
about 6-7 years ago (each year it has new upgrades and add-ons) so this
jacket is better than what I purchased.

I was in the same position looking for a new wading jacket this fall and
would have bought the Cabelas jacket however, found last years Redington
Qnimbus jacket on closeout for $70.00 and bought that instead.

Good luck,
JT

I saw a knock off of a SImms windproof fleece jacket in a Lands
End catalog for $70. Thinking about getting one MT

If you want to spend a lot of money and get a great jacket, go Patagonia.
they have one of the best warranties in the business and great products.

IF you don't want to go quite that high, get a Cabelas catalog. they have
at least a dozen choices. They also have their own version of Gore-Tex
which is supposed to be comparable. It is a lot cheaper! However if you
want Gore-Tex, Cableas has about 6 different coats using it. they also have
a grat warranty. You won't go wrong with them.
