RAndy , we have them that big here as well. My buddy catches them
bluegill fishing in the spring all the time.

I read they destroy spawning areas, some websites said kill them and freeze
them and report them

Lol, lakes I fish are loaded with them. They're shiners. I think you're
reading the paranoid ramblings of guys in the UK & the like that fish for
minnows, carp etc...

You caught one on a jitterbug, that may be a first lol.
