The only problem was when we got to Jackson
itself, and saw that it looked like a yuppie western theme park. We
immediately circled the wagons and got out of Dodge.

I used to have a client that lived in Jackson, on one of the original
homesteads, right on the river just below the ski area. I spent a couple
month long "short summers" there, running field trials on the weekends
training on his place and the Elk Refuge mid-week.

From that experience I can say with confidence .... very few places as ugly
as Jackson exist in places has magnificent as Jackson Hole .... Ketchum and
Mammoth Mountain and some other yuppie ski destinations try, but none match
Jackson for plain vulgar affront to what God intended, imho.

That pretty well sums up my reaction to it. You cross that pass and
the first thing you see is the gorgeous valley ahead of you, and then
you go a bit further and there's nothing but god-awful strip malls.

Carol and I looked at each other and at the same time basically
said, "so this is Jackson ... let's get the hell out of here".
