How bad can it get?

I love this story. Some goober Repub nutcase, running for the seat of disgraced, convicted, sentenced, and serving-time-for-bribery Rep. (R) "Duke" Cunningham, put a photo of a peaceful Iraq town on his website, citing it as an example of how everything was hunky-dory in Iraq, despite all the biased only-bad-news from Iraq coming from the so-called left-wing media. http://www.pnionline.com/dnblog/atty...es/003008.html The only problem is that it was a photo of Istanbul, Turkey. I am surprised you missed this one, though I don't follow all of these, so I could end up with egg on my face :). I just heard this on the Real Time podcast. Apparently Babs Bush donated to the Katrina victims with the express instructions that the money be used for Educational Software, which, by coincidence is the business son Neil is in, who, by coincidence, is backed by our good friends The UAE. As Bill Maher said, "You can't have a good Bush scandal without a Sheik involved." |

Babs was deeply moved by the photos of those poor Katrina victims on roof tops holding up signs saying, "Please, for the love of God, send us educational software!" -- Cut "to the chase" for my email address. |

I'm far less charitable. My gut feeling leans toward him being
dishonest and arrogant. I personally don't believe he ever got down into to the "quiet" streets of Baghdad, much less took a picture there. Whether or not the photo was an honest mistake, his portrayal of his experience there was likely a lie. Once his Turkish street photo was exposed as a lie, he posted another of Baghdad, but this time from high on a hotel balcony. If that's as close as he got, that strongly suggests the streets of Baghdad are indeed as dangerous as reported by others, and reporters and visiting politicians are not safe outside their hotels. And two, he's a lying ******* to say otherwise and probably thought he'd get away with it. That said, I'm just as sure that some semblance of normal life does exist for these unfortunate people; but it shouldn't be newsworthy that an average citizen can safely walk down his street to buy vegetables. I'm sick of right-wing toadies trying to put a positive spin on this debacle. Were it not for this latest incident fitting neatly into that pattern of disinformation, I could dismiss it easily enough; but I'm sick of the lies, even small ones. Joe F. |
