Wolfgang who notes, not without a certain degree of concern, that if he is ignored by just a few more people he will scarcely be able to keep up with the increased correspondence. :( Calling people idiots or morons Altho it may be true It is not going to allow you to win friends and admirers I do not think that you would be voted the president of ROFF nor do I think that you will acquire a large loyal retinue. but it is humorous and somewhat insightful Sincerely Fred |

Wolfgang who notes, not without a certain degree of concern, that if he is ignored by just a few more people he will scarcely be able to keep up with the increased correspondence. :( Calling people idiots or morons Altho it may be true It is not going to allow you to win friends and admirers Something I may not have considered. I dunno.....what do YOU think? I do not think that you would be voted the president of ROFF I can guarantee it. I would never stand for the office. And even if elected, I would not serve, in part because I'm not interested, but mostly because there are many people much better quailified to serve their own interests at the expense of the group while mouthing stupid platitudes, insincere praise, manifest irrationality by the boatload, wholesale hate in the guise of patriotism, genuine obscenities, the word of god (straight from the horse's ass) and lies, lies, and more lies.....in short, just what the electorate wants. I'm just not cut out to be that accommodating. nor do I think that you will acquire a large loyal retinue. I have several friends. I wouldn't trade any of them (or even lend one on a short term basis) for any retinue I've ever seen or read about, regardless of size or feigned devotion. but it is humorous and somewhat insightful Humor, like so many other things, is in the eye of the beholder, and insight is merely what someone else accepts and confesses to having missed.....or wants to be sure that others are aware he didn't. Sincerely O.k., that part I believe. :) Wolfgang |

That brings up who would be good for the office. Bob Weinburger, Conan or Claspy (the librarians), Boy is Bill gonna be shocked. jeff, Frank Reid, george cleveland, a few others. Not a darn one of them I can think of that I'd guess would be willing to serve. Frankly, most of the ones I think would be lousy at it wouldn't be willing to serve, either. It's just that kind of place. Precisely. And the folks who *would* be willing to serve don't last long in this place. Reminds me of when our department head position opened and one of my colleagues suggested I should apply for the job. I just shook my head and said, "What, and have to supervise the likes of you?" Conan or Claspy (the librarians), I REFUSE to play second fiddle to that knuckle-dragging, tool-toting, Nahuatl-speaking, book-cataloging information professional! Besides, I would have to recuse myself on grounds of moral ineptitude. Wm |
