Tell me more about the #22 Soft Hackle. Particularly about the hackle
part. What do you use?

I didn't tie it, George. It is black hackle - dyed? I *think* it
may be an Orvis fly because if I don't tie it, I buy it from Harry or
my local shop which happens to be Orvis. It has a touch of *very*
thin green flash (cut flashaboo?) and is tied on a very small straight
shank hook which I would guess is either a 20 or 22.

It was very effective when Myron was on the Rapid, and his killer fly
was also black, but with red instead of green. It was also larger.

The PT soft hackle I also had success with was partridge.

possibly may be starling hackle. I tie small olive wets with starling down
to a size 20.

That sounds reasonable. I think it is the black soft hackle combines
with the greenish flashaboo that does the trick.

Jo, Jenny, and I are headed up in just a few minutes for another week.
Expect it to be cool during the day and chilly at night. Ideal for
Lakewood.

Adios.

The Killer Fly I was using was an African Devil, one I invented for my
first fly swap. Its basically a PT body with a red cape wing and a
tail made of strands of stiff fur, tied on a #18 hook. The recipe is
on Tim's archive page, but it would be easy to replicate. I was very
pleased at how successful it was, being something that I tossed
together as a newbie. I'm going to make some more and use them more
often.
