OBROFF: Bonus

I knew it was coming as he'd discussed it with me three months before. Daughter hooked a good one. Not only is he a computer geek, but in the bonus round, he has the option package that he's a fly fisherman from Montana. We've already determined that the batchelor party will be in Montana in June during the salmonfly hatch on the Madison. Who cares when the wedding date is, as long as the batchelor party is done right. Frank Reid You may not have enough money to buy flies after the wife and daughter get through the wedding planning. |

It happend to me. I now will be unable to retire for 12 more years. At least my job takes me near trout waters. Guy two daughters, two weddings, and now a grandchild. A new Precision Weld Boats diesel jet would have been cheaper. |

Congratulations, Frank!!! Bring the future son-in-law to Penn's, so we can,
um, break him in to the realities of life with his father in law. Tom p.s. Is he well versed in first aid techniques?? |

Frank Reid Okay, instead of the NFL wildcard games this weekend, we watched "wedding planner" shows on the WE network. My eyeballs are bleeding. I've just talked to the Air Force Reserve recruiter and he can have me back in uniform and deployed to Iraq inside a week. I'm asking for Afganistan as there has to be trout in those mountains. If I work it right, I can arrive back in town on the day of the wedding. Frank Reid (okay, this one's not funny any more) |

HTH, R ....I mean, you'd probably be out of traction long about time for the wedding... Frank Reid (okay, this one's not funny any more) |

I think the scale of weddings has some regional differences. When I was a kid in NJ weddings were major financial events, with debt, casts of many etc.. Ditto with some of the ethnic and religious celebrations keyed to the stages of life. Even working people spent big time. Never made sense to me. In Utah wedding centered on the church and were more community supported. Here in Western Wa., seems the folk who go that way are often newcomers. I live in an affluent area, but the mode here is more homemade. The circle we travel in tends to be glued together by the women. The women get together and pitch in, on flowers, food, etc etc. Music is modest and local. The "minister" is just as often shamanic and or mail order. The locations tend to be rented community halls, chapels on ex-military bases etc... The best wedding I can remember food wise was fueled by a pickup truck load of fresh crab just down from Alaska contributed by a guy who just made a lot of moola coming up with a use for scrap cedar. Salmon is almost always on the menu but the commercial fishers are fewer as the years pass. I think my last kid's wedding cost us about 5k plus 5K as a gift. Cash gifts are common. You might consider asking around as to what the local mores are. Particularly if one or both of the kids are natives of the area. Sometimes homespun and "plain" have more local cache among local well off folks, than . . . . Dave Good luck. The best advice I have is just stay out of the women's way. |
