you *must* let me try that on dick's creek on your next foray into the
old north state.

yfitons
wayno (um, well, you can have my 6.5 orvis "one ounce" in temporary
trade...)

Sounds like a deal. I'm due for another dose of those lovely mountain
streams. Is there any point in making a trip in the summer, or should I
wait for October?

I think slower is better when you are casting just the leader. I have

a
7' fiberglass rod that works well in these situations, but when I'm

heading
to a really brushy area I take a bamboo rod because it just works best.

This one is pretty slow. It's just the tip section of a busted rod I found
in an abandoned house up in the UP about fifteen years ago. I cemented the
female ferrule into the grip and voila!

Wolfgang
um......but don't tell wayno. :)

well, the very best time would be mid april. but then, there's the
question of penn's in mid may...

if you would commit to a mid-april trip, we could probably form up a
mini-clave with wally, zimbo, jeffie, pj, opie, me... in the big water in
the smokies.

I'm thinking about a trip up around Robinsville in April to try and
find the place Tom Brown and I fished a few years ago.

If you're thinking about that place with the waterfall, big pools, long
sluice along a granite wall, etc., I think I still have the GPS data.

That is a magnificent place - simply awesome scenery and replete with
fish. I recall sending an EHC through a small falls with a bow and
arrow cast and snagging a 12 inch brown hiding in the underlying pool.

That's the one. IIRC there was a nice clearing nearby that would be a
great campsite.

Yep, campsite 20 feet from the water. I'll dig out the data and send it
via email.

Thanks, I appreciate it. Send it to cchoc at bellsouth dot net, which is
my 'real' email. If it's as nice as I remember I may just stay. g

Tough choice for me. I DO love those mountain streams......but Penn's is
the big one....and Roger is going to be there this year.....my chance to
meet a jenuine European. Of course, I would love to do both, and my
accountant, my boss, and probably Becky as well think it's a lovely
idea......but I suspect that they all view it as yet another opportunity to
beat me. :(
