"thinner skinned pack up and leave"? I think it's more like "rational folk
decide to better allocate their time".
Stan Gula

You may have a point there, Stan.

All too well, Wayno. Yet I persevere where the thinner skinned pack up

and

leave.

Ya know Stan, I agree with this. I've been part of the kind of **** I
don't like on this newsgroup.

But lately, I wonder what it is the "rational folks" want to talk about.
Take out the politics, name calling, and infighting and there's some
slim picking on ROFF over the last couple of months. Stuff always
degenerates during the Winter, but Winter is over.

Let's face it Willi. We've probably been getting 100 to 200 messages per
day for a decade. How much of this can you really expect to be all about
fly fishing without boring the irregulars present to tears? We're here,
because at some level we like it, or we wouldn't be doing it.

Sounds like a typical spring day to me.

Hell if I know. In winter my thoughts go to looking up and trying new fly
patterns and such - not much to talk about. It snowed here yesterday...
Just enough to make everything feel cold and damp again. I'm dying to get
my canoe on the ponds. Hey Timmay! Let's pick an afternoon this week.

Well, I wish you all in more northern environs a rapid return to fishable
days. I've been on the water about once a week but hampered by winds that
average 15-20 mph each day.

(Maybe I misread your post but I took it as a dig on what's been going
on here)

Although I agree with your "We're here, because at some level we like
it, or we wouldn't be doing it." statement, but the "fly fishing only"
part of your response is the typical cop out and isn't the point made by
most people when they're critical of ROFF. There is a whole world of
topics between "fly fishing" and personal attacks.

Your response is very similar to something Wayne H. would have made in
the past. It sounds to me that even he's singing a different tune lately.

Charlie...

I don't think that to be the case, Charlie. Both cases are true.

I
merely
used one case.

poor boy; don't you begin to get it? it's *so* easy to **** up

around
here. judgments, opinions, and condemnations are our stock in

trade.

Well, some things never change:

"The [Roffians]cannot love their [newsgroup] without hating a good
part, if not the majority, of their compatriots. Without having
injured, disqualified, incarcerated, deported, or massacred enough to
satisfy the exigencies of their zeal, they accuse themselves of
moderation and tepidity. A good [Roffian] looks on himself as such
only if he has caused death during harsh periods, caused sufficient
shame and ruin...amid a number of his compatriots to calm his dread
that he has not given all of his love to his [newsgroup]. Unless
avarice or personal or family egoism has not already made him
indifferent to the public cause, his lack of fervor leads to
self-loathing if he has not delivered other [Roffians] to the
inquisition, to the police, to the executioners, to the
grave-diggers."*¹

yfitons
wayno (it gets more tiresome every day)

Perhaps, but no one has actually died of it yet, and the fish still
rise......well, on a good day, anyway.

¹Berl was actually speaking of the French in the aftermath of the
armistice of 1940.....but the message is universal, ainna?
