Hi,

Today i've bought a pair of Simms Lightweight Stockingfoots. They seem as
being made of good quality goods. But today I also read, in an advert for
the same waders, that the Simms Lightweight Stockingfoots were the lightest
goretex waders on the market blabla bla, and "were best suitable for
fishermen/women who only fish a week or two a year" ?!?!?! Has anyone used
these waders, and should I return them, and buy another model? Maybe from a
different vendor even?

The waders cost 3000 danish kroner here in Denmark, that's more than 400$ US
dollars. At that price, I'd expect something different(more), than "one or
two weeks a year".

Thank you in advance

Thomas.

Ive had a pair (the guide model) for almost 3 years and havent really had any
problems.
They are especially handy for the part of the world where I live, since heavier
material
would make them too warm to wear when hiking in to a stream.

I guess the only 'problem' is that you have to be more carefull not ripping
them when walking
through bushes etc.. (beware of tjoern and brombaer ...) but thats about all.
But if you plan to
use them at the coast in spring and autumn, then get some very good thermos to
wear underneath.

AAMOF, I'm off to try them out again today for a few hours at the "secret
spot"
on the Swift, if anyone wants to join me. 65 degrees and sunny, no wind (for
a
pleasant change), and fish calling my name. There should be some hatch
activity
going on. . . See ya!

The "secret spot' has become so secret even the fish are having trouble finding
it.{:-(

Please post a TR.

I also have the Guide model and hike in through all sorts of nasty brush
to get to my fishing. I used them about 70 times last year and they held up
just fine. They seem tough enough to me...

You are missing a very important point. If you buy a "guide" model,
that is made specifically for someone who will be using them ALOT, and
guide models are usually more expensive (and they are). A guide might
wear his waders 200 days in a year, if Simms say the lightweights are
specifically for people who wear them only a handfull of days a year,
one could reasonably assume that they wouldnt last as well as guide
models.

I'm about 100 days into mine, and they are fine. I also have about 100
repairs, but that all came one day when I used them as armor to get
through a quarter mile of blackberries in the dark. The repair was
easy, and they waders are fine.

I think you can relax, Thomas. I have a pair of Lightweights that I
fished hard for 2 years (200+ days per year) without a single leak or
other problem. I fish only 10-20 days a year now (just on vacations),
but the waders are still going strong. At $200, they have been
excellent value. I believe the "week or two a year" bit is Simms'
little ploy to get everyone but the most casual fisherman to spring for
the Guide or G3 models. And in Denmark, those must cost about the same
as a cabin in the woods..... ;)

Thank you for your reply. Well, I returned the Simms, and got a pair of Loop
waders instead. Same price, but tons of features and at least the same
quality as the Simms. The G3 model cost close 750$ US dollars in Denmark, or
the same as a medium sized cabin in the woods, hehe.
