I can free up a weekday afternoon with little notice, and maybe we could get a few others to do the same. Smells like a mini-clave; we'll call this one "Mass Appeal". Over the decades I've wandered down River Road as far as Cold Spring Road looking for access and good looking water, but to be honest the water above the Rt 9 bridge was always much more inviting, especially while that dam down below had the river all backed up and too high to wade well. Mass Appeal sounds about right, now all we need is a break in this soggy weather. Radar shows the sky just west of us riddled with bogies... /daytripper |

Ahhhh. . . but there are also a few sweet spots not on River Road. . . Mass Appeal sounds about right, How about Weapons of Mass Destruction? now all we need is a break in this soggy weather. Radar shows the sky just west of us riddled with bogies... Yeah. It looks like the weather for the next few days will suck, but, hey, it's New England so that'll change soon. Any day but next Tuesday I should be able to catch a break. Keep it in mind. Bring beer. -- TL, Tim http://css.sbcma.com/timj |

You might be interested to know that we have a project under way to remove that rubble pile (sometimes called Iceman's Dam, but really the remains of a stone bridge). Work may begin this fall. Permits are lining up. Access to the lower section is easier than you think... |

The missus did it first after our daughter was born and lost almost 45lbs. Agree with Ken re Atkins. With S. Beach salads, lean meats and veggies are encouraged which makes it a healthier diet than Atkins, or so they claim. OTOH, I have a friend who swears by red meat and beer diet when he wants to lost a few pounds and it seems to work for him. Tim, regarding Mass Appeal. Next Wed I am off, but I could make it to the Swift by 3pm on most days except Fri, depending on workload. That's one *hell* of a caveat, Gary! g The best fishing is from 3:00 on anyway, but a lot depends on how much water people want to see. My guess is that everyone has fished the "secret spot" already, so we could meet there and decide as time goes by. On any given day, the C & R spots can be vacant or crowded - no telling till we get there. Hell, if *all* of us show up, it'll be crowded if no one else does! I've seen all of the water and can get to it within a few minutes from home, so I'll just play to the crowd. Let's shoot for Weds/Thurs, picking the best day depending on the weather. Stan? George? 'tripper? Mr. LaCourse? Handyman? Bueller?. . . , Bueller?. . . , Bueller?. . . ,Anyone? Now, I've got to go and get busy losing about 40 pounds before then so you assholes don't show me up. -- TL, Tim ------------------------ http://css.sbcma.com/timj |

With S. Beach salads, lean meats and veggies are encouraged which makes it a healthier diet than Atkins, or so they claim. Actually Atkins encourages veggies and salads as well, but only those with low carbs. They suggest a green salad which would provide most of the allowed carbs, as well as roughage. Othe veggies I ate were snow pea pods and asparagus, two of my favorites. I think many folks who try Atkins are afraid to include enough fat in the diet. You have to lose the old "pyramid" concept, and include enough fat to replace the carbs, otherwise your energy level will go to hell in a handbasket. Although I could never adapt to Atkins full time, (too restrictive and very boring), while I was on it, all of my cholestrol and triglyceride numbers were good, and I recorded the lowest blood pressure, (114/56), of my adult life. Also, by eliminating added sugar, most refined flour, and by instituting portion control, I have avoided the "rebound effect" that has been reported following Atkins, and , in fact, have continued to lose weight, albeit at a much slower rate. Tim, regarding Mass Appeal. Next Wed I am off, but I could make it to the Swift by 3pm on most days except Fri, depending on workload. I can usually get away after 3:00 PM on weekdays, as well. By the way, what bugs are on the water these days? Most caddis (tan, gray, brown), sulphurs, March brown, light Cahill are all doing well. Attractor patterns (Adams, Wulffs) have a lot of success, too. The usual suspects as far as nymphs are concerned (GRHE, PT), and GRW and/or green weenies may be the ticket soon. I fished a few gasp streamers a week or so ago and came up with a couple of brutes. I'll try to get out between now and then and get the latest news. George - can you add to this? BTW, tree branches are out in force, so bring something to roll cast. :) -- TL, Tim ------------------------ http://css.sbcma.com/timj |
