"Warren" wrote in message ... Hello Folks, Just thought I would stop in and get a list of who is coming to the conclave this year. I have received emails from a few people and updated the clave webpage with the info that I have. If you have any questions or need anything, email is the best way to get in touch with me (addy is in my sig line but you have to unmunge it). Once I get email addies for everyone coming, I will set up the "clave broadcasting system" to send out any updates, info, etc. -- Warren email me using troutbum_mt(atnospam)yahoo.com Clave Information: http://www.geocities.com/troutbum_mt...nConclave.html Will only be there in spirit this year. Planning on it for 2006, but too much going on this year. I always have the N.C. Outer Banks trip the week leading into July 4th, a big family generational thing, and this year Maribeth's family has a reunion the third week of July in S.C. , so if I want to stay employed I'll have stick it out on the East Coast that time of year. Something I just realized.....did you get a chance to put together a master compilation of pics on CD? I know we talked about it but don't think I recvd one. No big deal if we didn't, just curious. Might help me get through another year. Just so you know, whenever I talk about that the trip last year, I always go into the Slough Creek tour. How I barely survived the short walk up and in, the bears, the bugs, and dehydration, in order to catch some of the most satisfying fish you will ever look upon. There's also mention of the Montana Sherpa guide that showed us the way, Thanks again, Mike |

oups.com... Warren wrote: wrote... I checked the TroutFlies.com web page and I think that the logic of "getting what you pay for" is sound. My panic question is, I roughly counted almost 100 fly patterns on the list for the "Western Clave 2005". Let's see, 100 patterns times 3 sizes times 6 each = 1800 flies. I guess I won't be able to work much between now and then. Seriously, is there a more reasonable (pared down) list? Thanks in advance. Buy/tie the most important and basics and then buy/tie whatever you don't have when you get here. Caddis, stones, pheasant tails, zug bugs, princes, hare's ears, etc etc are essential. Blue spotted ass caddis emergers in size 19 you can probably do without. ;-) -- Warren email me using troutbum_mt(insert at symbol)yahoo.com Clave Information: http://www.geocities.com/troutbum_mt...nConclave.html Oh pushaw! I just tied 4 dozen Blue Spotted Ass Caddis emergers. Actually 1 dozen BSAC emergers, 1 dozen BSAC duns, 1 dozen BSAC spinners, and 1 nymph stage. ;-) I appreciate you keeping me in line. I will look again at Troutflies.com to add to my flybox. Ditto with Bruiser's comments. I was a Western Clave rookie last year and several of Harry's patterns came in very handy. I bought a bunch that I didn't get a chance to use but that just gives me more ammo to justify another trip out next year. One recommendation from Warren last year that came in very handy, Rogue River Salmon Flies. On Harry's site, and on the clave 2005 list, the BLT Salmon Fly looks prudent also. Don't disregard the pheasant tail recommendation. It's always in everyone's list, for good reason. I recommend ALL sizes.. We didn't really see too many grasshoppers around, I think we were just a bit early for them, but that didn't stop the fish from taking the BLT Hoppers. Smaller ones worked on the Gibbon (as proven to me by Jeff Miller and Indian Joe before I would believe it) and a larger size worked randomly on Slough, and the Madison. The only true Mayfly I could identify that appeared in decent enough numbers that fish would key on was the Western Green Drake. Around a size 14 on Slough, never figured out the pattern on the Yellowstone but I suspect it was smaller. It's a totally different fly than what you are use to on Penn's. I'm jealous...but will drown my sorrows while staying monogamous with Penn's this year, Mike |
