well put Dave.....i would say "they played the hand that was dealt

it may be hard for some folks to understand that now...

Nah, not at all hard to understand. They were all heroes.....just like all
the German and Japanese and Vietnamese and Russian and Chinese and Korean
and Panamanian and Mexican and South African and Palestinian and Finnish and
English and French and Spanish and Portuguese and Colombian and Venezuelan
and Brazilian and Belgian and Syrian and Egyptian and Israeli and Polish and
Lithuanian and Romanian and Serb and Slovak and Mongol and Viking and
Teutonic and Roman and Greek and Moorish and Gothic and Visigothic and
Vandal and Tatar and Babylonians and Hittites and Midianites and Philistines
and Aztecs and Olmecs and Incas and Zulus and Masai and Lakota and Iroquois
and Hurons, etc. etc. etc. Yep, heroes, one and all. None of them wanted
to do it, but by golly the job needed to be done so they went out and did
it. After all, if THEY didn't go out and bash, smash, slash, shoot, flay,
skewer, impale, explode, rape, incinerate, dismember, poison, bury alive, or
otherwise destroy the world's children, who would?

And you indescribably evil thugs, butchers, murderers, idiots, thieves,
liars, rapists, back stabbers, adulterers, money worshippers and all around
filth dare to trumpet yourselves as the champions of freedom, valor, honor
and decency?

Oh, I get it alright.

The military is a necessary evil, but at it's heart it is truly
evil. Which is not to say everyone in the military is evil, some
surely are not. I'm not a flag-waving, "my country right or wrong"

American was an accident of birth, I can no more be proud of being
American than I can be proud of having blue eyes. I was just born

language will never suffice to persuade you. So I won't even try.

Kerry's three PHs are phony. He got his first, a scratch on the top
of his hand while serving with the outfit he volunteered for - coastal
patrol. Little if any action. There was no action the night he got
his scratch and even the doc said it looked like a U.S. piece of

Er, no. He was just some guy who wound up in combat when he tried to
avoid it. From rational accounts, he did an average job and spent a
fair amount of time trying to get himself out of a mess of his making
while still feathering his nest for the future...IOW, he did exactly the
same thing many others did and do, in the military and in civilian life
and there's no particular shame in it. But there's absolutely nothing
"heroic" about it, either.

And they would be correct - there was nothing "heroic" about McCain's

other acts, that were heroic.

You can't define heroism because the word has lost all meaning.
When everyone who served in 'Nam, everyone in the military, the
fire department and the police force is a "hero" the word becomes
meaningless. Hell, Bill Ayers is in the news lately so I nominate
the Weathermen as true American heroes. They probably did more to
end the war in Vietnam than some of your more pedestrian heroes
like Martin Luther King Jr. et al. 1/2 :-)

I don't think that everyone who served in "'Nam" ("'Nam,"
Gracie...what, are you watching "Rambo" or something...?), everyone in
the military, the FD, PD, etc. are "heroes." In fact, a few are total,
complete, utter ****ups and criminals as far away from any rational
definition of "hero" as one could get. I do not think that Bill Ayers
is one, but I'm not sure he falls into the category of "bad guy" either.
MKL is marginally one, based on what I understand of his motives, good
and bad. John McCain is a "hero," John Kerry is not. And IMO, the
status of both doesn't, in and of itself, have the slightest thing to do
with their suitability or lack thereof to be POTUS.

David, Im just wondering if you are aware that the Israeli nuclear
stockpile is estimated to be at least 100 weapons, up to 400 weapons,
with way over 1000 delivery systems. Israel probably has more nukes
than all of Western Europe. Israel definitely has more Nukes than
China, India, Pakistan, and North Korea combined.

Do you really think that the Israelis are incapable of defending
themselves? I think you know or should know that they are armed to the
teeth and have much more capability than even most Israelis are aware
of. So why should Scott worry about Israel "if Obama wins" ? It is
very clear from experience that the Israelis would strike first if
they were seriously threatened. It is known that they alerted and
loaded for sure on at least one occasion.

Please, I know that if you were half awake during your sojourn in the
Navy, you already knew what I have just said. Just stick to the normal
slander please.

You are one of the few in this group that I have respect for.

I am appalled that others can't see through bull**** that Hussein Obama
is spewing.

Un ****in believable.

No, it really not all that hard to believe that two hate mongers would
support one another.

I sure hope you and dave enjoy 8 years of Barack Obama, cause it sure
looks like it will come to fruition!

Op --McCain/MILF '08--

If Obama gets in, he is not going to be there 8 years. He is clueless as
well as most of the government on how to stop the economic morass we are
entering. We are going to have a bad next 4 years and I do not see Obama
helping with his raise taxes and spending scenarios. He keeps saying
"Change". But the only change I see from him is he wants to the change the
POTUS title to him. What we need is a fiscal conservative. And the next
POTUS is not one. Cut government spending by at least 25%. Cut the
bureauracy by at least that much. With a Democrat POTUS and and a Democrat
Congress, katy bar the door on spending.

Yes, let's:

"Right, yeah I get it, any Rebooblican is better than any Demoholigan,
right? What a crock of ****. Im a Demo, life long, and if I have
switched parties and voted absentee for McCain, and will vote for him in
the general (vs Gore) if I have a chance. However . . . Im voting for
the man, DESPITE his flirtations with Conservative goofiness. And its
because of three reasons.

1. He's tough and has shown his personal courage to stand up against the
gamut from physical torture to Senate purile bull****. The man is not
perfect but he is basically honest.

2. He thinks out of the ideological box of the conservative/liberal
framework that lazy people think is politics.

3. He has "on the ground" military experience, and, like many officers
of the Viet era, he is cautious about getting entangled in every tribal
conflict that comes down the pike, while supporting a strong defense at
a reasonable level. We are going to need that quality in the years
ahead."

Any guesses as to what character might have penned the above...?

Sorry, not on coastal patrol, and not . . . not, according to those

Having said that, friendly fire in no way disqualifies one for a PH in

Nice try -- he didn't get a PH for that.

A BS for picking up the Army

Another nice try.

His boat sped away momentarily out of the kill zone. That's standard

Oh, and that same guy -- Larry Thurlow -- received a Bronze Star for

Both Bronze Stars were earned.

You apparently have no idea what he did to earn the Silver Star. The

Furthermore, and even more upsetting, you are unworthy of the freedom

you have proven that you neither respect them, nor know how to use
them honourably and sensibly.

Indeed, in view of how some here behave, it is quite obvious that you

the threat of punishment or similar that keeps you under control. As
soon as any real control apart from self control is removed, you
misbehave. That alone proves that you are unworthy of a free

others in it, and indeed compromise the environment itself.

That is exactly what you and others have done here.

That was me apparently. I hope most of what I said is still true. But
a few things have changed. The first is time and health. A man's time
on earth is limited and health is a fleeting luxury. He is old while
the country needs youth. Obama has the energy edge.

The second is what experience and information provides. Experience has
shown the adventurist Neocon approach to defining and pursuing our
national interests, . . . to have been a failure and an expensive and
hopefully not fatal mistake. McCain is not picking up on the basically
changed world situation fast enough.

Information, more reliable than a while back is revealing changes in
the country's situation, changes which McCain's policies ignore. That
is very troubling in what it says about the competency and stamina of
the man and his national security team. Here are 2 specific examples,
1. Kandahar has fallen to the Taliban. The World media know this, but
US media are punting. McCain Inc ignores it. 2. McCain is ignoring the
negotiations between Iraq and the US, and between Iraq and Iran, and
between Israel and virtually all the enemy threats his speeches say no
one should be talking to. (Example: Israel can talk to Hezbollah,
Syria etc., but the US cannot?)

It comes down to this: McCain is a politician I supported years ago
who has grown old and maybe a little stale in the honorable service of
his country. I have an imperfect, but I think better choice in Obama.
Here's why in a nutshell:

1. Our country is in for some ****. I want a President who is smart,
well educated, knowledgeable of our Constitution, organized,
reasonably moral, politically effective in a diverse constituency,
young and energetic. I think Obama comes closer to these qualities
than McCain does now.

2. I want a President who can draw upon a "deep bench" of experienced
and tested cabinet members who know how to manage large public
bureaucracies. The Ds have that bench right now. The Republicans do
not have a deep bench right now, and in fact internalize a hatred of
government; How can you manage an organization you hate? Only badly,
as we have seen.

3. I want a President who is middle of the road, works for win-win
solutions, an empiricist who compromises his personal ideologies in
favor of solving the country's problems, who respects the art of the
deal and the role of compromise in advancing the interests of the
country and the welfare of its people. I think Obama comes closer to
these qualities than McCain does now.

4. I want a President who resists committing American forces in most
third world instability situations that do not directly threaten the
lives of Americans. There are lots of other countries that can and
should step up to that plate. Our forces need to stay focused on the
roles only we and a few other major powers can preform. I believe
those roles include self defence, nuclear deterrence (the pax nuclei),
de-militarization of space, nuclear non-proliferation, global warming
containment, energy transition, serious science, world population/food
policies, and space exploration. I think Obama is more likely than
McCain to resist more of these kinds of entanglements.

5. I want a President who will curb the recent steps toward State
Socialism. As real Conservatives know, there are serious infringements
on our individual Constitutional rights in the so-called "anti terror"
laws of the last few years, and they need to be corrected. The
government take over of the finance and banking system is also
troubling. Despite what the Republican ideologues SAY, their "bold"
actions have led us toward socialism.

I think McCain leans toward bold and brash solutions. He is not a
conservative in any sense. The Democratic party is committed to a well
regulated MARKET based economy, private ownership, private property,
universal private medical care, and a tax system that pays the bills
and balances the budget. There is not one of these areas for which
John McCain has a policy that I see as creditable. Obama is a
Democrat.

Thats enough. Fact is you will vote for who you will, But I think you
will do better personally in a coming Democratic led country than you
would under a Bush/McCain/Cheney/Palin administration.

Dave
If the next Pres was expected to lead the charge out front with a
sword in hand and a dagger in his teeth, I would probably award that

You really are a most remarkably stupid **** arenīt you? As a direct
result of your and otherīs machinations I will never again write
anything about fishing on the internet, and nowhere else either. I
simply do not need the hassle from nasty evil ****s like you who

Many many people have sent me e-mails, and some have even phoned from

contributing to various boards and lists, and telling me to simply
ignore really nasty dumb ****ers like you, LaCourse and Fortenberry,
to name just a couple, but I am apparently quite unable to do so. The
very thought of you makes me sick. The thought that you might ever
damage anybody else in the same way also makes me sick.

I have erased all the computer data on fishing I had, I donīt need it,
I have it in my head, and I have also erased all stories and notes.
The thought that anything I did might possibly give one of you nasty
****s pleasure, or even the means or excuse to write more lies and

If it were possible to seriously and permanently damage you in some
way I would do it without a second thought. All I can do is keep on

being misused.

David, Im just wondering if you are aware that the Israeli nuclear

with way over 1000 delivery systems.

Please, I know that if you were half awake during your sojourn in the

Israel is afraid (make that "concerned") with Iran. She is VERY
capable of defending herself, but she is not going to sit by and wait

should do. But neither of the two that are running is worth a crap.
McCain, a long term Senator. The same Senate that has even a lower rating
than Bush. Obama, a declared socialist in all his writings and actions up
until now. His proposals to cut taxes on 95% of the people (impossible, as
only 55% pay taxes in this country) and increase spending by
$800,000,000,000. And with a Pelosi House, there is going to be absolutely
no controls on spending. At least with two different parties in charge of
the proposing spending and the spending branches, our children and
grandchildren may have some money left after paying for yours and my
spending.

McPalin is running the most despicable, lying, vicious political
campaign in modern history and they are quite deliberately
stirring up the racists with their hatemongering lies. According
to McPalin Obama hates America so much he pals around with
domestic terrorists and did you know he wants to peddle porn
in our kindergartens. Disgusting **** being tossed out daily in
a kitchen sink smear campaign that is as ridiculous as it is
repugnant. What on earth *happened* to John McCain ?

It's not working. Oh sure, the fundamentalist fruitcakes and the
hard core wingnuts revel in the mud and the racists hear a Palin
speech and become a wannabe lynch mob but decent Americans aren't
buying the McPalin lies and they aren't buying them in droves.

Stick a fork in the GOP, they're done.

If you want to have a Usenet conversation you need to learn
how to post properly. That is, your reply should be posted
below the post to which you're responding not on top of it.
Top posters are ****tards.

I don't really get the gist of your question. Are you asking
if the Secret Service can protect him from assassination or
if he'll be impeached by a Democratic House and convicted by
a Democratic Senate ? Yes to the former, no to the latter, so
yes to whatever your question was.

Ah, yes, Doug Reese...... Kerry's own little pitbull apologist. With
over 57,000 posts in several different news groups, most apologizing
for his hero J. F. Kerry, one has to ask oneself, "How much does Kerry
pay you to defend/adore/apoligize for him?"

Whatdoyahave, some sort of recognition signal that whenever someone
says a disparaging word about the "Hero", it clues you in so you can
remark on it and collect from Kerry? That has got to keep you busy.
d;o) I can tell you that Kerry is the second cheapest man that I know.
With an income in the 90's of somewhere around $300K/year, he gave an
astonishing $300 to charity. His excuse? He had kids in
college. Hell, he married two ATMs and makes more than me, but I
managed to pay for my kids' education AND give more than that to
charity.

He is a cheap *******, Reese, and you are his apologist.

So are you tee hee implying that someone will kill him? Or that he
might go hunting with "Sure shot" Cheney?
Stop talking silly.

You know I have put up with vaguely threatening right-wing
intimidators all my life. Ive pledged myself to a new personal policy.
Here it is: Next time someone threatens me physically for my political
beliefs, no matter how cutesy they put it, and they are within reach,
they are going to get the best smack I can deliver. I have found no
one who didn't get much less threatening at the sight of their own
blood.

I know a lot of people with progressive politics who feel the same way
I do. And I know a lot of fat ass-ed, pain-pill abusing, out of shape
right-wing BSers who think no one will react violently to their
threats, or that no one else in the room might be armed. The
assassination of Obama would be followed by the end of right-wing
politics in this country.

Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Why don't you just cue up your Ron Paul stuff. And your statement that
Obama is a declared socialist is proof positive that you will need to
go to re-education camp for a few years when I am made Commissar of
ROFF.
