I did not try to get a marriage annuled after more than 25 years of marriage, and by so doing, making my offspring legally *******s. Nor did I kill anyone, make havoc in a bar with Dodd, or go on a drunken spree that has lasted ever so long. Ted Kennedy is the weakest of the three brothers (I do not include Joe because Ted did no know him). I am sorry for his death, but I certainly will not miss his lies and hypocrisy. Richard was correct in his admonition of the man. Some will think him a saint; I look upon him as a joke, dead or alive. Dave So speaks the living Jester! Good on ya Davey. Op |

He ignored facts and as President Reagan said, “facts are stubborn
things”. I remember in the early 1970s, Kennedy, a leading advocate for amnesty for draft dodgers, took questions at a public event (at least he had the honor to do this unlike current politicians). A man got up, told him he’d lost his son in Vietnam and asked just how he could be such an advocate for amnesty when his own brother, JFK, started the Vietnam War and his brother’s appointees (MacNamara, Rusk, Westmoreland) had so thoroughly botched it. Ted mumbled something incoherent and called on someone else with a friendlier question. Facts are stubborn things. |

I have heard rumors (and that's all they were) about her being pregnant. As far as his leaving the car and closing the door, I don't know. But I do know that she could have been saved. There was a pocket of air in the car and she took shelter in it, breathing it until the CO2 killed her. If he wasn't drunk he could have gotten help or helped her himself. His abandonment of her, going to sleep (probably to sober up), and not reporting it until it was too late is the part that bothers me about his character. His "trial" was a travesty. He should have gone to jail. Dave |

I feel that the US might be wise to take a tip out of Europe's book, and deprive their Royal Families of political power. The Bushes, Kennedies and Windsors are fine for scandal and fashion, but politics is much better done by dull people who are given office for their ability, rather than because of who their relatives happen to be. Ted Kennedy tried to be a leader after 3 of his brothers died: One in World War II, the favorite who was supposed to run for President. And 2 others were murdered by each a gunman’s bullet. Teddy, in the meantime, had no mystical sword or was knight of the Round Table. Teddy was spoiled slush of a drunk who thought only of himself. He cheated in Harvard & was expelled, yet Joe Kennedy–with his wealth & influence–had the spoiled Kennedy forced into the school when anyone else would not have been allowed back. In a drunken stupor, he murdered Mary Jo Kapachne in Chappaquiddick, yet again was not held accountable for his actions. Anyone else would have gone to jail for either murder or manslaughter. Teddy kept his senate seat warm all these years as he became more of a liberal ideologue bent on Big Government as 1 senator out of 100 instead of being President of the United States when he ran in 1980. Senator Ted Kennedy cheated on his wife, had ravaged young women with Senator Chris Dodd to make a “waitress sandwich” while in a drunken haze, & lived a hypocritical life such as when he pandered to the Environmentalists, yet did not want the wind farms on Martha’s Vinyard. If Senator Edward Kennedy was the lion of the senate, he was the Cowardly Lion from the Wizard of Oz who was scared of his own shadow. In other words, Senator Ted Kennedy was all bark & no bite (unless you were a hapless waitress or a woman he found he wanted for the night). There is no Camelot with the Kennedy’s; it was all about political power & domination of the average American the Kennedy’s claimed to represent. |

well, I warned you, Keng....... Anyhow, I am probably in agreement with Family-Outdoors(by the way, a name would be nice, F-O.). I figured on a few demonstrations of blind ideology overtaking any nuance or sense of dignity. The whole of the man's life is a bizarre picture, but maybe Will is correct that the ledger tilts to the positive. I don't know. Rick speaks of conduct the man apparently got behind himself 10 years or so ago. Certainly, he benefitted from undue priviledge in the handling of his causing the death of another. Yet, politically, he became very savvy and a positive legislative influence. He stuck to certain principles in his legislative agenda with consistency. Time will tell where the verdict falls. Tom Tom, what do you think of his annulment of his marriage of 25 years? Do you think you or I could have received such special favor from the Catholic Church? Or would we have to divorce our spouces and deal with it like everyone else. Like his trial, yet another travesty. Dave |

"David LaCourse" wrote in message news:2009082914201711272-dplacourse@aolcom... Tom, what do you think of his annulment of his marriage of 25 years? I think the whole Catholic Church treatment of marriage, and the saleable nature of annullments is amusing. Do you think you or I could have received such special favor from the Catholic Church? the very same deal was offered to me, when I go remarried to Lisa. It came, of course, with a clearly stated price tag. I told them to stuff it, and we were married in the Methodist Church. Thus, no, I see absolutely no special treatment for Ted Kennedy on that matter. His price tag may have been steeper, but the principle(or lack of same)remains. Its sort of like Oscar Wilde once said to a woman at a dinner party(after getting her to agree to sleep with him for a large sum,but being appalled when he suggested a meager one afterward), "We've established clearly what you are, now we are merely haggling over price." I have spent more time then I wished around Kennedys and their "friends" Having heard some of their stories, this is easy enought to believe. Ah, the Vineyard!.....those were some days! I recall a particularly beautiful summer's evening down at the dock, aboard the Honey Fitz. Rose, fairly well lubricated by the time she'd finished her third Dewar's and diet Dr. Pepper (no ice, shaken, not stirred) was reminiscing about your daddy ("that diminutive pickel boy" as she fondly referred to him). She said, "There ain't nuthin' much wrong with that boy that couldn't be fixed by someone grabbing him by the ears and ****ing him in the mouth." Jack, flashing his famous grin, replied, "Well, that isn't precisely true, Mumsie." I mean this as a straightforward question: "what personal insight do you have into the Kennedys?" A fair question. And far be it from me to answer for anyone else, but it seems to me that if you were to offer some of your own anecdotes it would help others immensely in their quest for a balanced view.
