Well, I recall teaching you something about flies.....so numerous they
did swarm. But any fool bereft of sauna for a few days in the western
UP in June could have done that. And I also remember your first
encounter with a smallish fowl, known locally as the "hex", when it
nearly took your ear off on its errant entry into camp one evening.
But that was none of my doing. Mosquitos, at their most benign, you
have also encountered here in Curdistan. But you've seen those
before. About all I have left to show you along these lines is
blackflies and deerflies at their maleficent peaks. I harbor no doubt
that your thanks will be tepid at best.

As for fly "fishing", I distinctly remember that on the occasion when
we first fished together your efforts to get a fly on the water
succeeded vastly more often than not, and that you frequently brought
it back with a fish attached. Furthermore, you always managed to get
to the water and, more importantly, back to the beer truck, before
anyone else. I had nothing substantive to teach you.

i reckon the student knows better. you've shared literature i'd never
have read otherwise, taught me how to fish a sandy-bottomed, reed-banked
brookie stream in wisconsin (odd place that...including the briars,
flies, and skeeters, but lots of willing fish thankfully), taught me how
to fish successfully in the oxyincontinent...uh... octaginate... octogon
....****, you know, that lovely spot near bruce crossing. not to forget,
the first pass lake i'd ever seen... and, i'm still working on that cast
where the fly makes a 90 degree turn at a rock on snowbird. lots more
too. as i suggested to dave, there's a universe of lessons to be
learned about fly fishing that have nothing to do with the actual
fishing or catching.

Hm......

Well all of that would take much too long to dispute on a point by
point basis, especially considering that a boy is pretty much swamped
just now, what with listening to a debate on Muslim radicalism in the
U.S., eating everything in sight, reading something or other about
native plant communities here in coulee country, watching the snow
fall, nursing indignant muscles recently subjected to unaccustomed
labor out in the woods, and puzzling over the everlastingly
inscrutable efforts of so many of our brethren directed at exposing
themselves for what they are.....like they really NEED to do that at
this late date.....ainna?

I and my wife feel extremely successful
I did OK in biz as did Joanne in anoither biz
It enabled us to buy a nice hunk of the planet out West & our

You are right - ROFF has no idiots, imbeciles or morons here even
includuibg Sir Wolfgang II

Perhaps quite the opposite
There are some good and knowlegeable
fly tiyers and fishemaen
and a good eclectic mix of nuts & views

What happened to rdean - ???

Hi,

Won't be able to get out for a few weeks yet, but was thinking a bit
ahead.

I may do some early fishing from a rowboat, and, frankly, have never liked
using a flyrod off the boat. Always results in rod dings no matter how
careful I am.

So, have mainly use a spinning rod and the typical spinning lures from the
boat, and the flyrods from shore.

Question: how would one rig a spinning setup to be able to cast, e.g.,
size 6 or so, flies with a spinning rod ?

A small weight a bit up from the fly, or a dropper with a weight, or ...?

Practical at all, or, forget it, and just crank out the flyrod again ?

Thanks,
Bob
