Hmmm... Actually I've been busy doing espionage for the Canadian
government. After Bush announces his big push for the Cato Institutes
"Ownership Society" tonight and people are left without any employer
health insurance (other than a little lump sum and maybe a $1000 check
from the U.S. and the admonishment to "Go buy your own") we feel the
time will be right to take the northern tier of states back into the
folds of the Commonwealth.

You can have Washington and Oregon, as long as we can keep Pennsylvania (I
like the fishing and the bears don't need socialized medicine). Also, if
you all take Mass., ya'll might finally get yourselves a decent hockey
team.

"Treaty of 1846
Article II.
From the point at which the forty-ninth parallel of north latitude shall be
found to intersect the great northern branch of the Columbia River, the
navigation of the said branch shall be free and open to the Hudson's Bay
Company, and to all British subjects trading with the same, to the point
where the said branch meets the main stream of the Columbia, and thence down
the said main stream to the ocean, with free access into and through the
said river or rivers, it being understood that all the usual portages along
the line thus described shall, in like manner, be free and open. In
navigating the said river or rivers, British subjects, with their goods and
produce, shall be treated on the same footing as citizens of the United
States; it being, however, always understood that nothing in this article
shall he construed as preventing, or intended to prevent, the government of
the United States from making any regulations respecting the navigation of
the said river or rivers not inconsistent with the present treaty. "

I guess we have to let them into the Oregon Country, but nothing says they
get to sleep on any park benches.

About joining the northland, more likely we take back some land into the
Oregon Country and start the N.W. anew.

We can open talks at the next western clave if we can get a Canadian to
attend.

Note that I didn't disagree. :)

Sorry I missed you in Minnehoovia. Life has a way of presenting both
conveniences and inconveniences.......but selecting for the latter
preferentially. :(

But that would mean that Wolfgang would have to be what he calls a
"careful reader!"
