Largemouth, smallmouth, they're still not trout. and, don't be sending any of those less-than-effete folk into the realm. Elitist g btw...i trust wally has returned the book. thanks so much for the rare gift. it was a pleasure to hold and to read, even though the bubble-boy suit and gloves made page turning a bit tough. g I'm sure it's on the way, I order some fly lines from him and told him to send it with the lines. I'm glad you got to read it finally and enjoyed it. I really wasn't worried about damage to it, I don't have any plans to sell it and I am a reader, not a collector. Remember it was some guy stuck in the mid-west who put you onto Rivers of Memory and Starlight Creek, I might need an attornery one day. g |

Actually it was just plain old bad typing and non-proofing, nothing freudian about it. Forget about the pristine shape, and they were all first editions (there's been no re-printing), how did you like the read? I don't know if I told you the story of how i got that copy, Somewhere along my travels I ran across a beat up copy in a flea market or some such. There was no slip cover and several pages had been torn out in front, including the signature page. In unpacking things in Indy and moving a book case, I had some books on the floor, including that beat up copy and my wife dog took a liking to several of them, including Starlight. I made a few phone calls to some people I know who know other people about getting it rebound and repaired as much as possible, I ended up sending it a binder used by the parent company of the original publisher. A few weeks later that copy you saw showed up in a UPS envelope. There was a nice note from a gentleman and a request that I never sell it. So at some point I will probably donate the book along with the other four books (all 1st editions) of his to a library, probably through my estate after I'm gone. jeff (definitely "ornery" about leaving graham county) |

HM was once asked by an interviewer: "mr. middleton, what have fish got to do with it?" to which HM responded: "for chrissakes, that's what i'd like to know." from my improbable and serendipitous association with folks like you, jim roberts, wayno, indian joe, wolfgang, dave lacourse, warren, dan finn, willie, john baker, john hightower, mike makela, and wally...well, sometimes, i think i'm close to knowing the answer. and, that's really near where starlight creek meanders, ain't it? your story of acquiring the book is further proof of the magic and mystery of "the rhythm of things that come and go. ebb and flow." jeff |
