I try and be as non judgemental as possible..but a "class act" gets my
attention every time! In this case, it was not a class act...but like I
said, hard to judge someone's actions if you don't really know the whole
story. Winning this event might make any of us a bit "giddy"! g

I have to say if he was just being a little gung ho about his win I can't
really give him a hard time. SWhen I played pool three nights a week I
would kick myself hard for every screw up, and whne I won a tournament I
acted like it was no big deal becasue I had done it before.

Now that I have started fishing tournaments I have to admit I was pretty
excited, and a little over bearing in November when I weighed in a $900
dollar fish. But then it was my first real money finish fishing.

I'ld have to see the clip you guys are talkign about, but I doubt he did
anything wrong from what you guys have said.

No doubt John.

You guys gotta understand that for Mike winning this tournament was the
equivalent of hitting the Power Ball Lottery.

No, I don't scream when I catch a winning bass. I think that would spook
any other bass for one thing. I'm partial to the fist-pump ;-)

I have to respect Mike for his accomplishments. He has lived my dream. And
while he & I may express ourselves in opposite manners, I also have to
admire his intense level of confidence. I think confidence is half the
battle in bass fishing.

I agree Warren. Confidence and focus. I lack the focus and that is the main
reason why I am
a lousy tourney angler. I win in 10 years and 30+ events. If I don't have a
fish by noon I am toast. I like your Powerball analogy. I have NO idea how I
would react to that. Nor will I
ever. ;-( Joe Z

You know I watched the same program and I found nothing wrong with the way
Mike reacted. I would have probably done cartwheels across the stage,
screaming at the top of my lungs, pumping my arms and flashing the #1 sign.

Actually, I thought about it. My biggest fear would be that I'd win it, and
because of my mind blowing excitement, drop dead on the stage from a major
heart attack. But I guess that would be the second best way to die.
Besides, you know that one would go down in history. "Man Wins The Big Show
and Dies On Stage Accepting the Trophy!"

I dunno about that one. I'm guessing I'd pass out after htting the
Lottery LoL

But isn't that true of all fishing? Or, for that matter, success in
almost anything?

I do agree with Warren, I am quite partial to the fist pump also. As for
winning the lottery...I don't play. Those guys just hold you up in line
at the convenience store choosing what numbers they want to play. But if
I did play & win, I curl up in the fetal position and need therapy LOL.
Anyway, don't feel bad Joe...I only have 2 tournament wins in 11 years.
If I don't have a fish by 12:00 I start pushing and thats when I lose
focus and fish to fast.

Thanx guys this post has been fun !!!

I am not an Iaconelli fan for a few reasons, but I am not sure what instance you are referring to? Was it when he caught his fish and pumped his fist?
Or the ending when he was announced the winner? Van Dam went nuts on stage when he won, jumping up and down. Yelas did not. I am not sure how I would react after winning the biggest tournament there is. Given Iaconelli's character I was not surprised how he reacted , but can you really fault him for being excited. Was he acting for the cameras? Possibly, but I have seen him on other shows and he seemed to act the same way no matter what. So I guess I presented more questions than answers, because I just don't know what to think about the whole thread.
On one hand you don't want people suppressing your true feelings, yet you don't want someone acting out just because of the audience.

My opinion of Mike Iaconelli remains the same. He made a complete and
total ass of himself. You never saw Yelas, Van Damm, or Hite act like
that when they won their crowns. To me the way Iaconelli acted rates
right up there with Terrell Owens(49ers-the Sharpie incident) & Joe
Horn(Saints-the cell phone)....classless.
I believe that you should act as if you've been there before. I wonder
if Iaconelli had a Sharpie on board would if he'd taken it out and
signed the fish?

Confidence comes from experience Joe...beng flexible in a tournament is
a good thing, but having a plan you are confident with, and sticking to
it is the key in my opinion. My son never boated a fish before 11:00 am
in the three days of the US Open...but he won it. When all the rest of
the guys were putting their top waters away, and going to plan "B", John
was just getting started with his top water. The confidence was there
because of his experience on that lake...he trusted that experience and
stuck wih it! That doesn't mean it will always work, but a good game
plan, and sticking to it will usually fair better than seaching for
something at the last minute. But having said that, I was always a
little like you, I wanted some fish in the boat before the sun was too
far over the hrizon g.

There's your problem. You ain't doing it often enough. 25 to 30 tournaments
a year is OK -- for a northerner with a short season.

Pumped his fist? He rolled around on the front deck creaming like a
complete idiot, in a blatant show of feigned enthusiasm.
