What's your favorite brand of trolling motor?

I have used Minn Kota's for years with very little trouble. My Mag 40 would have been 19 yrs.old next spring. However, it bit the dust a couple of weeks ago. Had been drawing excessive amps which kicked breakers now and then and finally froze up. I was told that no parts are available for this dinosaur anymore so I guess I'm in the market. Would appreciate your recommendations. I used to be a motor guide user, but to tell you the truth, the MK on my current boat is a more reliable, more battery firendly motor any any MG I've ever owned. |

To be honest... I've used both and the motors were fine on both of them.
But... The mounting system on my Motorguide that came with my boat absolutely sucks. There's more thrashing and twisting going on with that thing that somedays I think it's going to break itself loose. To help lessen the twist, I'll pull it up to where the motor is just under the water enough to keep from cavitating. The mounting systems on all of the Minn Kota are either solid across the top and to me, very well built. The newer ones even have something to assist in lifting the motor up that I think would really help out my back! The pedals on the Minn Kotas also seem to be more ergonomic and are easier to use. Other than my mounting issues with my Motorguide, the thing has lasted through two seasons of pure hell. It's been bounced off of rocks, sticks, logs, stumps and anything else that has gotten in my way. Only problem I've had with the motor was the time it started making a loud sound when run on either of the two most upper speeds. I fixed this problem myself by loosening the long screws on the motor housing and realigning them. I guess I may have knocked something out of whack one day on one of those rocks. I'm still planning on upgrading the motor to a 24v, and I've decided on the Minn Kota Maxxum 70lb/24v. Only because of the mounting system and to get more power. The 12v motor will get me through about 12 hours of fishing, so the 24v should increase my time as well. "Boilermaker" wrote in message ... I have used Minn Kota's for years with very little trouble.
