Digital Camera Recommendation?
"Thomas Schreiber" wrote in message . .. "Padishar Creel" wrote in message ... Santa brought me a Wal-Mart gift certificate and I am interested in a digital camera to take on fishing expeditions in the unlikely event that Bugcaster actually catches a fish so I can record his one-in-a-lifetime achievement. G I subscribe to Consumer Reports and they evaluated digital cameras, recently, and picked the Nikon Coolpix 2200 as a best buy in the 2 megapixel range. First of all is 2 megapixels okay for your normal fly fishing pictorial chronicle and has anyone had experience with this camera, or would recommend something else? Chris, who appreciates your input! Pentax WR 4.3 is waterresistant. If you want a small "always in the fly vest" kind of camera, I'd go for the Pentax. I use a Fuji S7000. Its not a small "point and shoot" cam, but the picture quality and the feature list on the cam, makes up for the size/weight - which isnt that bas either. Nikon also makes good cameras. Stay away from "wannabee" brands like HP, Trust, Logitech asf. Fuji, Canon, Nikon, Minolta and Pentax are all good brands. One thing you should look out for, is the batteries. Get a cam which has some easy available batteries. The small rechargeable "one-size-fits-only-this-model" kind of batteries are nice in size, but when you run out of juice, it's nice to know that nearest gas station has some batteries that fits in your cam :o) Pixels are only a must, when you wanna print your shots. For web use, 2mp is more than enough, and actually my old Canon A10 1.3mp was superb for net pictures. -- Venligst, Thanks, Grüße, Thomas Schreiber - http://schreiber.se - Usefull links: www.google.com www.tinyurl.com I'll second that. The WR 3.3 or the 4.3. Both are supposed to take water down to 1 meter. That's about the length of your arm so if you drop it in a hole deeper than that, it's gone anyway. The bad thing about it is that it looks like a lighter or a fly box not a camera. Al digital cameras eat batteries. The 512 MB card will take a weekends worth of pictures without opening it up. It has a panoramic feature which lets you connect panned images by freezing a line of one image to use as index to link the next image to. Works great indoors but the LCD display washes out out when your outside and makes it semi useless. |

If you can find a 2MP Canon Digital ELPH, it's IMHO the best camera for fishing expeditions. Santa bought me a waterproof case for my ELPH and even with the case the camera is still smaller than the vast majority of other cameras. I have that camera with waterproof case and it is a great camera to take on the water. -- Charlie... Is that the camera you had, when you camped on Upper? Yep. I also had a Coolpix 880 but I didn't carry it when we fished. -- Charlie... http://www.chocphoto.com/ - photo galleries http://www.chocphoto.com/roff |
Digital Camera Recommendation?
"Thomas Schreiber" wrote Pentax WR 4.3 is waterresistant. I have a Pentax WR3.3 ( model just before 4.3 ) that I am very happy with. I keep it on the supplied cord around my neck and tucked into a shirt pocket all the time I'm out fishing, rain or shine. It takes very nice quality pictures, has more settings than I understand, and takes nice macro pictures for bugs and flies and stuff. I have gotten it wet enough to ruin some digital cameras ( that is how the old one died ) with no apparent harm, but haven't really taken it swimming, ...... yet. |

My wife and I bought Canon SD300 in January 2005 for about $360.00.
This is a very small and very powerful camera. It's 4.1 megapixel, so it shoots amazing pictures. We both love it. The size of this camera is quite impressive. It's actually smaller than my wife's cell phone... ;-) If you go to Dell.com, I think they have it for about $300.00 now. I think that's because they have other updated versions (SD400 and SD500). Anyway, check out www.betastudio.com for more digital camera information.
