Well, such was the myth. Disney proved it to be incorrect, but they
solved the problem by making a grass fire to force the little critters
to leap over the cliff into the water. Of course that took ages to
seep out as information with Disney meanwhile letting the movie keep
the myth alive.

The lemming myth is kind of up there with the wolves eating the
wedding party as sacrifices were thrown off the sleighs. That one was
at least a self protective one. The survivors had murdered and robbed
the rest of the party.
