Indeed, I fear you are right.Probably quite foolish of me to imagine
that even group censure, even were it to occur, would have any
effect.

Talking to yourself again ?

The links I posted were for information, some may find it useful.

More like self-aggrandizement, as if we didn't already know you
were capable of spewing volumes of pretentious, pompous, overwrought
bull****. The most useful aspect was the discovery that contrary to
what you'd have roff believe you are far from universally respected
in other fly fishing forums. Fully functioning bull**** detectors
are not confined to roff it would appear. ;-)

It also scrolled a lot of rubbish off my screen! :)

Funny, rubbish is exactly what filled my screen when you had your
little hissy fit.

Yes, but what they post speaks of them, not you. You have no control
of that.

I did not state that ROFF was full of idiot dumbos.

The links I posted are to my own articles on fly-fishing related
subjects, and most are only useful with the accompanying pictures.

If you had just posted one or two, I'd say you were probably trying
to convey useful information. Posting ten or twelve in a row is
sending a message of a different sort.

I donīt hate anybody, although I certainly am disgusted.

Ahh **** it, whatīs the point...........................

You seem to think no one understands what you're saying. Maybe some
of us understand, but disagree with the content, context, or
premise. So what? IMHO, that "**** it" attitude would have been best
applied several days ago.

What surprises me is the fact that you and others condone the
behaviour of a few extremely offensive people, and then tell me that
what they do is somehow my fault.

I don't recall doing either of those things, and here's the best part: just
because you say I did those things doesn't make it true. Why would anyone
here care about what I or anyone else personally condone? Isn't Usenet
wonderful?

This simply does not make any sense.

I think I've spotted the problem here. . . ROFF is anarchy at its best.

However this may be, I suppose you get the newsgroup you want. If you
wish it to be dominated by offensive scumbags, then it will be.

As an adult, I've found that I can read just about everything posted here
and disagree with a good portion of it without so much as breaking a sweat.
The old adages "consider the source" and "you get what you pay for" go a
long way around this place.

Veering off on another tangent, your use (with which I agree) of these
two adages, together with Jeff's mention of "tar baby" reminded me
that many of our "old adages" are colloqialisms whose meanings may not
be fully understood or correctly interpreted outside the US culture.
I suspect that "you get what you pay for" is of far greater relevence
in a capitalist nation, for instance. My favorite anecdote in this
vein was on a trip to the Netherlands when one of our American
managers expressed an interest in "picking the brain" of one of our
hosts. Huh? He was quite fluent in English, but to him, "picking"
translated to "stealing". It was a good laugh all around, but
illustrative.

That said, I also find that many other cultures have their own adages
that seems to say what we want to express, occasionally with greater
elegance and humor, and that often translate quite well into English.
None of this means anything in this thread; I just couldn't help
myself.
