I just received this email.

"Dear Mr. Cleveland,
I am a close personal friend of Nancy Anderson whom you may know as
"Cyli". I was with her today in the nursing home she is at and she
requested I contact you concerning her situation. Sadly, Nancy passed
away Tuesday evening at 10 pm. She had long been suffering with
cancer.
I was with her near the end and she was sleeping peacefully.

I found you via the posts in rec.outdoors.fishing.fly.

I am sorry to bring this news. I will miss her dearly.

If I can be of service feel free to contact me at this email address.

Sincerely,
AA"

I'm speechless right now. I'll try to post more later.

I'll raise a glass to her , didn't know her apart from here and she once
commented on a fly of mine. Makes you think perhaps all those things we
should give up we should give up for her.

John

Did anyone know she was in a nursing home? About how old was she? I
thought she might be in her early 50s. Much too young to die.
Someone said she was a smoker. Could that have been the cause?
Really shocking.

Er, well, it's a pretty good guess that she was well aware of it...

....and on a related note, she apparently told darned few ROFFians about
it, certainly never discussed it here, and thus far, only one has
chosen to post an email notifying _him_ of the situation. And based on
that email, she didn't ask her friend to post anything here.

Whoa.

Cyli's calm demeanor in this nuthouse (and r.b.) was always a wonder
to me, though I never met her.

Here's to hoping the squirrels are speaking to her, and that the
willows now bend low, weeping for our loss and her moving on.

Bill

I couldn't possibly have put my sentiments any better,
Bill. RIP, Cyli....you will be missed.
Tom

There is no doubt that ROFF will never be the same without Cyli. Maybe her
kind and gentle ways will have been left behind. I plan to start lookin'
myself.

Op --Good-bye Nancy Anderson. We're gonna miss you more than we know.--

Sad news indeed. Please allow me to add humble condolences to her family.
Like many above, I didn't know her, in fact I don't know if she and I ever
really "spoke" here. I did however, look forward to her posts. From reading
them, I agree with Wolfgang... she seemed a rare person...always calm and
well-reasoned.

Echoing Bill above, I too hope the squirrels are speaking to her.

SNIPPED...and if it had contained even the slightest hint indicating
it was intended to be posted to a NG, I'd have left it alone...

Very sad. Makes one reflective of the people we've been interacting with
for a decade or so here. When Cyli was looking her maker in the eye, she
still found the time to come around and say hi.

Um, well, I hate to break it to ya, Scott, but you're looking YOUR maker
in the eye...you may just be doing so from a little further away....

Deep. Way.

And according to the email, "Cyli" wanted George to know of her
situation, not the whole ****ing world...or even all of ROFF...

O.k., granted that George couldn't possibly have known Nancy as well as you
did (I mean, I've been to the man's house.....even slept there on
occasion....and despite numerous [and not entirely unprofessional] searches,
I have yet to unearth so much as a single super-secret dossier on any
ROFFian, dead or alive, past, present, or future) and yes, it is almost
certainly true that he has never audited "Googling Obscure Gun Parts 101" at
the Suthern Misisiipii Skool of Law and Soshul Siance while in a months long
drunken stupor, but have you ever stopped to wonder what life might be like
as NOT an asshole? Uh huh......food for thought, ainna?

Asshole.

And so, I'll not comment on something that I may not be supposed to
know,

Well, maybe some day......if you discover that you have something to say,
huh?

Imbecile.

Thnaks for letting us know about this George. And thanks to those of you
who shared some of your memories of her. I never met her, nor even knew
her real name. I enjoyed her posts, and will miss her.
